I think that's what happened to my dad's fish. go to PetSmart, they have a lot of specialized ppl walking around to help you. go to the fish section and explain what's going on with your fish. they can diagnose them and give you medicine that will help them get better. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR FISH!!!

That is either Ich or Fungus, most probably Ich.
Ich looks like your fish has been sprinkled with grains of salt: http://www.fishjunkies.com/images/ich1.jpg

Fungus is more like, well, fungus.

If it is fungus, get some Maracyn-2 and treat with that.

If it is Ich, you can treat with Rid-Ich or a similar ich medication. However, I do not like to use Ich Meds. It does a lot of harm to your fish. It will kill the ich, but it'll kill your fish, too. Now that I use salt, I have less fish deaths when I get fish with ich. Buy some AQUARIUM salt. Aquarium salt will kill the ich. Put 1 tbsp of salt per 5 gallons of water. Be sure to disolve the salt FIRST in a cup of tank water - putting the salt crystal right into the water will burn your fishes' gills. Leave it like that for 2 weeks, and increase the temperature to about 81F - at 81F, the Ich lifecycle will go by faster, and since the Ich is only killable by meds or salt at one point in its lifecycle, you will have more succes in killing it in less time with higher temperatures.

Is this a newly setup fishtank? Or did you get some new fish? Ich and fungus only manifest themselves when the fish are stressed for some reason. Please read the following links:

Could be "ick" - that's what the white spots are. They look like little white bumps/spots... That's probably the most likely. You can get stuff to get rid of it at your local aquarium store! Good luck!

well your fish can either have ick or a fungus... is the white stuff dots (little dots...) or are they in big blops???
if it is dots it is probably ick and will need ick medication, go to any pet store and ask for ick cure and they will give you.
if it is big blops or chunks on the fish it is probably fungus and will need fungus cure, go to a pet store and ask for fungus cure.

and if you need more info go to www.aqualandpetsplus.com and look on the left side of the page and it will tell you about ick and other diseases and how to prevent it.

go quick and get the cures.... good luck!!!

If it looks like little granules of salt, it's ich (also spelled 'ick'), but if it's fluffy, cottony white stuff, it's a fungal infection.

Either way, there are medications you can buy to treat both of these ailments.
