Fish - December 2006

Hi-my friend got me a 5 gallon hex. fish tank with a biowheel fliter for my birthday and i was wondering what fish i could put in it. i would like to have 2-3 fish...and i know their names: Ingrid and Bernard....but i want 2 different types of fish so they are different. Any suggestions? and how do i go about caring for them?

Well a week ago I got 3 female betta fish and put them in a 3 gallon tank..i know most people will say they need to be in a 10 gallon or bigger...but they are getting along great. It seems like they love each other and i thought bettas didnt really like other bettas especially in a 3 gallon tank. they always swim together even though there is room and hiding places. Why does it seem like every second they are together hapilly? They dont even fight but when i first put them together one of them flared there gills but after that they have been like 3 peas in a pod...

it is on it's side at the bottom of the tank and swims in circles, I know it's going to die but I would like to treat the tank so that I don't lose anymore fish.

It looks like a white fungus bloom or plant growing up from the gravel of the tank and on to the glass. All I own is a plecostomus. What is this stuff?

Ok so i asked last week if my guppy was preggers and most ppl said that it probably was! Well im not sure i understand the whole livebearing fish thang. Do they lay eggs in there tummys and then teh male fertilizes them in the belly then they hatch and come out?



also the other 3 guppys seem to be fighting over teh pregnant one, it seems like its been forever! Is there anything that could harm my guppy if she doesnt mate soon?

because ive seen one in a half gallon tank with no heaters does it mean it is cool water?

We have a pond with nine fish that keeps losing water! There are no cracks or leaks as the ground around it is dry.We have two filters, one small in the main pond and a larger one that filters outside the pond. Winter temps a here in Jersey, and we are worried about the temperature and integrety of the pond, we don't want to lose the fish!!! Does anyone have any info, either websites or helplines, or personal experiance that may help???

My all time favorite betta fish just died on Sunday, and I can't seem to get over him. I'll constantly find myself staring out the window, and thinking about him, or I just start to cry. I feel really depressed, and I want it to stop crying and feeling miserable. How can I do this?

My betta fish, Miikun, started to spit out his food and gradually stopped eating altogether around Thanksgiving. It's almost 3 weeks and he won't eat, he breathes heavily and stays at the bottom of his tank, only going up for a gulp of air every 5-10 minutes or so. I've tested his water and everything was good except the ammonia was a light green on the mardel test strip, 2.5, instead of 0 (yellow). His gills also bled a little when I put him into a hospital tank. I completely changed his water gradually over a week and retested, ammonia was 0. Here's the info on his tank conditions: I've had him 5 months so far, He lives in a 5 gallon plastic tank with a mechanical topfin filter that I keep clean. Temp. is 78-80 degrees. No real plants, algae has been a problem but I always clean the things in his tank in dechlorinated water when algae builds up. Aquarium salt in tank, lots of back-up meds, Phsically looks healthy. He eats pellets, flakes, and bloodworms. What can I do to help him?

I have a betta and two panda cories in a tank. I have some algae wafers for the cories and pellets for the betta. The problem is that the betta ALWAYS ends up eating both his pellets and the wafer and Im afraid that the cories aren't getting enough food. How should I remedy this?

When i bought this tank, the guy told me it was a 20 gallon tank, i'm kind of doubting that now, it looks like a 15 gallon to me personally, what do you think:

I have two goldfish in a rather small tank and I am planning on asking for a better tank for them for christmas. I have a 2 gallon tank and I would like to get another fish to put into it. I was wondering if this would be okay for a Betta or Guppies?

My second question would be the betta's at pet stores do not look very happy and they don't swim around a lot, why is that? and if i buy a betta will it just sit around like those ones?

I just noticed her laying on the bottom of the aquarium, I thought she was dead at first but I tried to grab her and she tried to swim away. She is just laying there, I really want to try to help her!

I have a beta and every time he eats, he floats on his side at the top of the tank for a few hours. If I move him he swims, but the rest of the time he just lies there. The first time he did this, I prepared the children to flush him, but he was fine by morning, now its the family joke, its no longer feeding time, its floating time.

Beside guppies is there anyother fisht hat breed like guppies? when I say it breeds like guppies I mean that it doesnt lay the egg. all the eggs and sperm r inside the female. Is there any other fish that is like that? Also it gotta be small. Thanks for the information.
