your tank is cloudy because the bacteria is blooming too quickly in your tank. It shouldn't be near windows or under vents because this stimulates blooming. If the charcoal cartrage has been in your filter for more than a month, change it. Make sure you have no more than one inch of fish per gallon. Two if you have goldfish. You can purchase a siphon at your local pet store for anywhere from 10-70 dollars, depending on the quality. You can use this just like a vaccum on your rocks and you'll drain and then replace about 20% of the water in your tank. You should do this once a month. Twice if you have south American cichlids or goldfish, because their waste breaks down slower and therefore produces more bi-product.

Wait for it to clear up or change the water. The problem is that your nitrogen cycle is not stabilized. Your nitrogen cycle will stabilize after 7 weeks and during the first few weeks only put hardy fish in (platies, guppies, paradise fish, swordtails.) After about 2-3 weeks you can start to put more delicate fish in.

Just happened to me yesturday, I put new gravel in though, so it took about 15 minutes for the filter to pick it up and change it..it was nice and clear after that. Hopefully you didn't forget to take the chlorine out of the water. Good luck, it will get clearer later.

You should change your tank water, and possibly ask an aquarium specialist for products that may help this.
