Put them in a tub and mix in a weak vinegar and water mixture. Stir them around with a spoon, and the algae will flake right off. The vinegar won't hurt your fish if it's not completely rinsed off, unlike soap.

I don't think you can all the discoloration off your rocks and plants. That's just part of keeping a fish tank. Warm/hot water and an aquarium sponge will clean them. They may be clean, but won't get back to the original color. If that is important to you, I would replace them with new rocks and plants.

For a tanks that is opperational...
If you have those plastic plants then the best way is to pull them out and sponge off under hot water.

For gravel I use my cyphon to suck up the water and stuff off the bottom. Between this and water changes it should be good.

Snails can actually be good cleaners, but you want to have those trumpet snails, the ones with the pointy ice cream cone shape shells. They are the easiest to remove if they over populate. They also churn up the rocks on the bottom of the tank.

Depending on the size of your tanks certain fish will eat the junk on the bottom too.

well as far as any large rocks and plants a very light bleacha nd water mix works witha little bit of scrubing make sure to rinse everything off very very well with hot water after but i would not sujest this for the gravel just go ahead and use a python for that or something along the lines of that tool and for the walls of the tank the magnetic scrubers are great

Run them under hot water and scrub them with an aquarium sponge.

If they are really gunky, soak in vinegar first.

Do not use any chemicals or bleach on porous material like rocks, as the bleach can seep into the rock and leach back out into your tank even if you rinse.

Just basic warm water in the sink is best then rinse them off in cold water so they do not retain heat before putting back in the tank.

snails and sucker fish are great to have in the tank as they will do the work for you. just don't over populate them.

Why do you need to clean the plants? You can just change the water and that's it. No need to clean the plants and rocks.

i shovel them out every now and then with a spatula..put them in a strainer and run them through hot water..other wise I put in a clean filter and stick my hand in the water and swoosh the rocks around..disturbing most of the gunk...your filter will get really bad..either rinse it out or change it.
