Fish - December 2006

I have a 55 gallon, with lots of plants (tall and small) and a large drift wood. Do I currently have too many fish? And if not can I add another small schooling fish?

Currently have 3 small angelfish, 6 cardinal tetras (they get along fine), 1 plecostomus, 1 rainbow shark, and 2 kuhlii loaches.

They have been fine for awhile now, is the tank large enough to add another small schooling fish? Like 5 tetras or danios? I know the pleco, shark, and angelfish will grow large. But will they be too large for my 55gallon?

Okay, sorry for all the questions today, but here's the dealio. Just got a new backdrop for my tank, and my betta is like flaking out on me, he keeps flaring up when looking at it, and he keeps like face ramming it...is he just trying to get into it as if it were real, or is he actually going mental. What's the probability in him dying tonight? Here is a video of him freaking out:

Is it just me, or is my tank cloudy as hell? I put new gravel in, rinsed it out, but maybe not enough? Help please??

I was wondering if anyone would know (ballpark figure) how much i could sell my 40 gallon tank for. It has a wooden base, cover with a light and pump. It is old (the cover is warped) but everything else looks good. And what to do with fish that you no longer want?

I've had this algae eater fish (it's scientific or "proper" name is a Chocolate Chip Spiny Pleco) for many years now. It's been a foot long for the last few years and there have been long periods when I haven't even fed it. (The algae in my aquariums is long gone, hence I give it algae wafers).
I saw on some WWW site that the minimum aquarium tank for this fish is 70 gallons!!!! Mine's been living in a 10 gallon tank for some time now, but I do have a 40 gallon tank that I'm going to get new accessories for to put it in.
I'm just looking for advice from other people who own them. What size tank do you use? Do you keep more than one in a tank, etc.?

I am upgrading from a 20 gallon freshwater tank to a 55, but I want to change the substrate from blue to natural or to white sand. I want to know if anyone knows where I can purchase freshwater sand. Or is it ok to use marine sand in a freshwater tank. Please help. thank you

When I change 20% of the water in the tank, do I have to put conditioner and put the water right away or wait. And do i put freshwater salt and wait again when I change the water.

I have a 20 long tank with a aqua clear 50 I have four live plants and two fake plants. my tank has 15 small fish no bigger than an inch and two plecos. I am using an airator. My tank has been set up for about a year and just now it started to show up everything is normal Ammonia and Nitrite are zero and ph is at 7.0. I do a 30% water change and clean the gravel every mounth and I don't over feed, I feed them for 30 seconds and scoop out the uneaten food. What can I do to make the algae go away or should I just leave it alone.

I don't know for sure, but I TRULY think my fish is sick. He use to be VERY active, now he's not. I just came from out of town not to long ago at all. We stayed out from Friday to Sunday (today), and he acts unusual. I had to keep tapping the tank to get his attention, and I NEVER have to do that. And, it took him so long to come back up onto the top of the water. It seemed as if he wasn't hanging on to well. When he'd swim up...he'd float down a little, and had to force himself right back up. I fed him also, though he took one of the pellets, he didn't eat everything.

The touch of the water is cold, so maybe that could be it I'm guessing? Just PLEASE help me out, I've been having this fish for over a year now.

Extra Info: Tank isn't to big, not TOO small. He's VERY active. He's playful and pays attention to things. He's NEVER acted sick before. It's been a while since we've cleaned out the tank, though it still looks in very good condition.
