Okay, sorry for all the questions today, but here's the dealio. Just got a new backdrop for my tank, and my betta is like flaking out on me, he keeps flaring up when looking at it, and he keeps like face ramming it...is he just trying to get into it as if it were real, or is he actually going mental. What's the probability in him dying tonight? Here is a video of him freaking out:

It's just typical male betta threat display. He likely sees his own reflection, and thinks it's another betta. (Only a handful of animals like chimp, dolphins, and elephants realize a reflection is themselves.) He'll do the same thing with a mirror. In most cases he will get use to it, but some betta are just psycho about it. I'd remove the backing if he doesn't calm down. I'd be concerned if he lacks a place to hide from his reflection.

PS- A half hour or so of mirror time a week is good for a betta. Most studies of betta find it's a positive reinforcer. (Which means they like it.) To much will time tends stress the betta out until he gets use to it.

just remove the back drop...if he's flaring up occasionally thats ok for him..but if he's constantly doing that because of the back drop then he's goiing to get reallly stressed...most likely he's seeing something in the backdrop that he thinks looks like abigger fish or some type of a threat or maaybe even his own reflection....so be kind to your betta and just remove the new backdrop...

Easy, you have a mirror or mirror type backdrop, the betta thinks it is another male, and he is trying to attack it......remove the back drop and watch.......
his colors will brighten fins will stand up and gills will poke out.....
don't imagine it would be good for him to do this for very long.....

He's seeing himself in the reflection of the aquarium. He thinks it's another fish. You might put something up over the part he's looking in just for a quick fix and think of something better tomorrow.
good luck...also I think when it is dark he will stop
I have one the same color

he can see his own reflection and thinks its another male..as you know your siamese fighting fish will fight to the death with another male...he will either knock himself sensless and die...or just realise that fighting the 'other fish" is a waste of time...good video by the way
