OKAY MY LITTLE TEACUP CHICHI DOG HAS HAD BAD BREATH SINCE I GOT HER (2 MONTHS AGO), AND NOW THAT IM STARTING TO BRING HER AROUND, WHEN PEOPLE GET CLOSE AND SHE GETS UP FOR A KISS, HER BREATH SMELLS LIKE SOMEONE HAD DIED IN THERE.

I was always aware of this but i didnt know what to do exactly. my mind always said "JUST BRUSH HER TEETH LIKE U WOULD NORMALLY". And that's what i did not too long ago, it smells better but once she goes back to eating her dog food it wont.

Im going to bring this up next time I go to the vet, it's not like she's going to die so i'll just do so then. But in the meantime...

-DO I CHANGE HER DIET?
-KNOW OF ANY TOYS/TREATS, ETC. FOR HER SIZE
-HOME REMEDIES?
-JUST KEEP BRUSHING HER TEETH?

ANY SUGGESTIONS/COMMENTS ARE WELCOME

We all know that going to a dog park has it's risks, but this situation happened to me a couple of months ago and I'm just wondering what your take is on it.

I take my dog, a large border collie/greyhound mix (but mostly border collie in looks and demeanor) to the dog park on a regular basis. My dog is very intent on his ball and mostly ignores other dogs. He is not agressive in any way, and usually runs to me when threatened.

It's not a huge park but it is fenced in. There are several ladies in the neighbourhood who do pug rescue and at any given time there can be upwards of 15 pugs in the park at once. Some of whom can't walk or see well.

I was throwing the ball for him when a pug ran at him and started yapping, nipping and got underneath him. In the confusion my dog picked they other dog up by the scruff and threw him. The pug was fine but I felt awful. It looked really bad.

I feel my dog was just defending himself, but the size difference made it look worse.

One of the men who work in my office building came in about an hour ago to show me his brand new Golden-Doodle puppy. When he told me that the dog was a purebred doodle that cost him $1200 plus shipping from Ontario, I suddenly spewed forth everything I know about these mutts being marketed as designer dogs, and that reputable breeders do not breed mutts....I basically told him that the breeder screwed him and that he could have adopted a homeless doodle for less money, while saving a life. I was in no way rude....how can you be rude while playing with a 12 week old ball of fur....but I was pretty matter-of-fact.

He did not react well....I think I offended him, which was completely unintentional. Is there any way I can smooth this over?

I saw a program the other night saying that Pitbull dogs have been banned (I know there was a problem with them a while ago as some were attacking people). What does this mean? Where have all the living Pitbulls gone (have they been killed). I feel really stressed as I love animals and believe that some of those dogs were probably fierce because of their horrid owners. Does anyone know if they still breed them?

...so called "designer" mixed breed from a "so called [unethical] breeder" when you can get the same thing in a rescue or shelter for much less?

Would you risk that the backyard breeder of these mixed breeds doesn't really know what she/he is doing and will end up with sick puppies because said "so called [unethical] breeder" has no clue how to prevent such illnesses from running amuck in the home? Then won't shell out the money and drive 30 minutes to an 24 hour vet clinic for a really sick litter and/or pup?

I don't understand WHY anyone would support such [unethical] breeding practices, do you?

My puppy loves her leash. The second that I pick it up she lays down. One time we got her to walk, but it took three people calling her name. Sometimes she will walk when I shake the treat bag, but other times she won't. I have done everything previously suggested, but I need help. She is about four months old and a small dog. She loves being outside on her leash until I pick it up. She stays close without the leash. I would just like to be able to walk her.

i have a 4 month old poodle puppy.
he is very very active. he goes for a run in the dog park every day for an hour but he still wants to run more.
i can feel his ribs and hip bones etc. vet says nothing to worry about until he is losing weight. he is not losing weight which is good.
i heard though that cat food is not good food for dog as it's too high in protein. but would that not be good for my puppy now? so he gets some protein to put on muscle weight?
please just let me know if it's ok. if not what can i give him to make him put on more weight?!
thanks

Ok, I have a puppy who is 6 1/2 weeks old. I've had him since he was 4 weeks cause the mother wouldn't feed him or his siblings. I've been crate training him: he stays in the crate while I'm working, he's out when I'm home. I take him out as soon as I wake up in the morning. He stays in the crate at night time cause I woke up one morning to 6 poop piles. I take him outside when I come home for lunch at noon, and I take him outside for at least 1 hour when I come home for the night. Whenever he pottys on the floor he goes back into the crate, but he's still going on the floor! Any tips would be helpful and let me remind you I don't like the idea of "cages" but I've had no choice in this matter. I didnt have to use it with my first dog I still have. He isn't kept in the cage all day, just between morning and noon and then 1 and 4:30 then he gets taken out several times while I'm home. After he poops outside, 5 min. later he'll do it in the house. I'm lost on what to do!

Its his 15 birthday soon and we have decided to get him a dog/puppy. We alreayd have two labradors and he says he doesnt want a labrador. Size doesnt matter, we have a 4 bed house a medium sized garden and the dog would be taken for 2 walks a day atleast. We want an resonablie energetic dog but not to hyper.
We dont want a breed such as rotwieler or dobermen (my husband had bad expreinces with those breeds).
Has anyone got any ideas?

Our female chihuahua just had puppies about 3 days ago. She had 6, one was stillborn, and another was much smaller than the others. He hasn't been nursing from his mother, and so we got some formula from the vet and have been bottle feeding him. se seemed to be swallowing and digesting. we've been waking up every 2 hours to feed him.
At first his mother would whine like crazy and try to jump out of the box when we took him out to feed him, but now when we put him in the box, she grabbed him in her mouth and threw him against the side of the box!

Help!?

I know this sounds craaazy, but every time I sneeze, my little pomeranian sneezes! At first I thought it was coincidence, but then I fake sneezed with the same results, over and over. It is quite entertaining for visitors! Should I enter her in David Letterman's Stupid Pet Tricks?? Its really cute!

She is 80lb.

I have a female Siberian Husky. She just turned 6 months old. How do you tell when she is in heat? how long it lasts? And can someone guide me through what happens during her heat? Do I need to do something during this whole process?
She will be spayed after her first heat.
Approximately how much does the operation costs?
How do I care for her after the operation? is there anything special I can do for her when she gets home? and how long is the recovery time after the operation?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....! =)

I think it's kinda funny that as someone who adopted a dog from a shelter, I constantly feel the need to justify why I wanted a small dog. I use the "I may end up in an apartment down the road" excuse- but why do I feel like I need an excuse?

My local shelter is always full of big dogs, they are the last to be adopted- the little ones are gone quickly. But if I am happiest with a smaller dog then why do I feel badly that the big ones are left there- I know I shouldn't adopt a dog I don't want just because I feel bad...

Anyone else ever feel guilty for their preferences?
