your dogs anal glands are bothering him

In modern-day domestic pets, anal glands can often cause health problems. Sometimes the anal gland secretions are not released naturally and build up - leading to thickening of the secretion, clogging of the duct and sometimes even infection and abscesses. You may have seen your pet with his tail up, dragging his behind across the floor. This is an attempt to relieve the pressure and discomfort of impacted anal glands and is called scooting. Scooting can cause damage to the anus and indicates that your pet is having trouble with his anal glands and needs some type of intervention.

Anal glands should be regularly checked and expressed when necessary in order to empty the build up of secretions from the gland. This can be done by your vet, groomer.

Normally anal glands are expressed when your dog defecates-but if there is a problem then he will scoot his butt across the floor to relieve it himself.

You can ask for help from your vet or your groomer.

His anal glands are full and need to be emptied by a vet or a groomer. It's not expensive and it does not take long to do. Don't let it go too long, because anal glands can become infected and extremely painful for the dog.

This behaviour can be caused by a few things such as worms, engorged anal glands, etc. If he has had loose bowels movements, he may just be suffering from temporary irritation. Take him to a vet to find out for sure.

He probably needs to have is anal gland checked/expressed. Dogs have a scent gland in their butts that sometimes gets inflamed or swollen. The cure is to have it squeezed to remove the excess fluid.

Believe me, this is a job that is worth paying a vet to do rather than taking care of it yourself!

The anal sacks may be full or irritated. A groomer can squeeze the sacks to empty them. My dog has this done every 9 weeks when he is bathed and groomed.

His anal glands are probably full. Express them and if you can't do it yourself, any vet or groomer will do it for a small fee. I express the anal glands of my dogs every time I bathe them. It is not as bad as you might think, only takes a minute and is easy to do.

most common reason is his anal glands are full. take him to the vet to see. if it's just that, then it should cost around $15-$20 to get them emptied.
if it's not the anal glands, it might be worms, which you still need to see a vet. either way, i'm sorry, but you have to make a vet visit.

This is sort of funny...my cat was doing the exact same thing about 4 months ago and out of concern I took her to the vet. I thought maybe she had worms. After a thorough exam, the vet laughed and looked at me. She said, " She doesn't have parasites, she just has as itchy butt."

It could mean two things. My dog does this and it freaks me out. He could have worms like some of your answers state or his butt just itches. I took my dog to the vet and he didn't have any worms his butt was just itching! But you should just take him for a check up just incase.
