first off, its parvo. secondly, it can be found anywhere (from what i've heard, it can stay in the environment for 10+ yrs).
taking them out in places where its more likely to be found (like dog parks, thru the neighborhood, etc) before they are vaccinated, is a sure fire way to put ur dog at risk.

Like everybody else said, parvo is a very serious disease that dogs can get rather easily. But if you suspect that your puppy has it, take it to the vet and tell them first before you get her shots. We had 3 puppies who all got it. The two that we got vaccinated a day before they all got the parvo symptoms died. The one who intially had it, and we didn't give him any vaccs, is still alive to this day. My vet said the reason we shouldn't have gotten her the vaccs yet were because it was already in our house, and when you get the shots for the first time, it will at first knock out every other anitbody so therefore there immune system goes way down and the puppy will most likely get it a lot easier. Our puppy's hospital visit lasted a whole week, costed $1000, and she still didn't make it. Especially if you have a rottweiler, doberman, or pit bull get them vaccinated right away and tell your vet to over vaccinate them.

One of the major causes of parvos is the transmission of the disease from other dogs. If your dog has not been vacinnated against parvo virus. It is very important that you keep your dog in a enclosed area where dogs cannot mix or even sniff your dog.
Another is that the utensils used by other dogs eg. drinking water or food must be saperated from the bowls used by your dog. If you have doggy toys, it is equally important that you would not allow other dogs play with it as they might be carriers of the parvo virus even though they may be vaccinated. Vaccination doesn't mean the complete eradication of the parvo virus as it can hide/stay in the doggy's fur etc. Vaccination means that the dog vaccinated against parvo has a built in health immunity against parvo virus

Do you mean parvo?
This is a highly contagious disease. It can be picked up from almost any contact with any infected dog, but it can also be picked up from the environment - the virus survives for a long, long time in the environment, including outside. The only way to make a dog safe from it is to vaccinate.

ITS A VIRUS
I wish people would not answer stuff they know nothing about.. read this and follow the link
Parvovirus is a viral disease of dogs. It affects puppies much more frequently than it affects adult dogs. The virus likes to grow in rapidly dividing cells. The intestinal lining has the biggest concentration of rapidly dividing cells in a puppy's body. The virus attacks and kills these cells, causing diarrhea (often bloody), depression and suppression of white blood cells -- which come from another group of rapidly dividing cells. In very young puppies it can infect the heart muscle and lead to "sudden" death.

It's "parvo" and it is spread through feces of dogs that have it, like if your dog were to step in the remains of someone else's mess. It could be airborne too. It is very serious. It is possible to overcome it with lots of vet care, but many still die from it. Best bet is to have vaccinated for it much earlier. If your puppy is sick, take it to the doc right away.

Dogs get parvo from not being vaccinated and being exposed to the disease. Parvo likes to live in dirt that gets little to no sun light. When I moved into a new house I put bleach water in a pump-up sprayer and spray the area that my dogs will be in and any area that has no grass(bare dirt). They also sell spray that kills parvo. But bleach water has always worked for me. I also am a firm believer in vaccines-they are cheap in comparison to vet bills to try to save your dog from a painful death.

Parvo is a bacteria/sickness that is left in the ground. That is why it is extremely easy for dogs to get it!!
