If you care about Pits so much, you'd do better by posting links which dispel the common myths - at least that way you'd be educating people.

As it stands, your question has just become one of the many many "questions" that gets posted every day which contributes towards the lack of education surrounding Pits, because it is just going to incite people to either say "Not me" or "Me".

You may want to gauge how many "stupid people hate pit bulls", but then what? How will you challenge those people's mistaken beliefs? I feel that if you think you have the right to call people stupid, you should make some effort yourself to educate them. Otherwise, what's the point of asking?

They are generally hated because really you always hear of the badly trained pitbull that mauled a person or ate another dog. You never hear of the pitbull that rolled over and licked a child playing.... Because of bad training and maintaining these dogs can and are very viscous dogs. They're shear strength is another reason not to like them. If they put their mind to something or someone there is little you can do to stop it. The dog fighting is another reason. These dogs were bred (a.k.a designed) to fight and beat other dogs. this constant breeding and fighting created what we have today. An extremely powerful, impatient, often viscous dog. To be fair I don't mind them but certainly will never get one. Rottweilers are another dog that bad publicity but actually recently 2 Rottweilers have changed the way I see them. When properly trained and maintained they are wonderful dogs that have very good patience and a great character. So there you go... Bad Publicity really If you ask me!! Gluck. *** EDIT ***** Your point of view seems very childish and immature. You've stated that you want to breed your dog, nd yet you know that there are dogs in the shelter. To be honest, I think a family with children would feel safer taking a dog in off the street than buying a pitbull... And really, I can't imagine that the Pitbull is the most loyal or friendly dog you've ever had. They're not exactly that nice. And you know what, you are looking at the problem with dogs in shelters very ignorantly, no it is your responsibility to keep dogs out of shelters. As a dog owner you know how much a dog "loves" and adores company with humans etc. You don't care about how good your dog is for breeding, all you care about is the money going into your back pocket. Well I hope you know, there are many bills you will have to pay before you sell those puppies. Instead of breeding your dog, try and help people become more comfortable with your dog breed. If you calim these dogs are so good and you love them, you should try and help the breed in general. Not JUST YOUR DOG. YOU REALLY SEEM TO BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE MONEY GOING INTO YOUR OWN BACK POCKET AND NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE BREED!!

The bully breeds are my Favorite kinds of dogs. I have a have boxer/pit. He is a meat head puppy but so sweet and awesome with everyone. My boyfriend has an amStaff Meatball who is the most amazing dog ever. Only thing with the AmStaffs and pits is they fight and when they do, if they do, they will win. Not all fight but if pushed they will defend. It's the people that breed them for the wrong reasons that give the beer a bad name. Pits are a very powerful dog and very misunderstood.
Ps.
Wuuzle is Right. People need to be educated on the breed. People with good pits need to show the average person"look my dogs a Pit and he loves you and your little kid." That's what I do when I take Meatball out.

First: there are many people out there that are not "stupid", just not enough of them to override the irrisposible owners that get dogs just for the heck of it.

Second: I have nothing against the breed, personally, but I would really appreciate it if higher powers exercised better control on the buyers/owners of strong breeds. It's really hard to do that because there are people like this everywhere, unfortunately.

EDIT: I apologize. I did not mean you. I'm talking about owners who get dogs because they think they are accessories. That is what I was talking about. I'm sorry if you don't like my answer.

It's primarily due to the overbreeding of this wonderful breed. Too many people with little experience caring for or breeding dogs having created there own little enterprises due to the tremendous demand for Pits and have flooded the market with genetically flawed Pits which are then mishandled by owners who view them as nothing more than landscape to be ignored for hours/days. This sets up a situation where the Pit is forced to operate is situations it's not prepared to deal with due to owner, breeder and genetically induced behavioral issues. Dod attacks/bites soon follow. I hope this helps.

i don't hate them but at the end of the day they are bred for fighting (fact), whether its a family pet or not ,and that you cant take away from them, if one of those dogs attack there more likely to kill than most other breeds (fact).it takes a well informed person who knows and understands the breed but unfortunately some people who own them are complete **** holes who have them as a status symbol to show how hard they think they are, and this has led to the situation now where country's are banning them when its not the dogs fault but the owner, if brought up correctly they are as good as any dog

I surely don't hate pits. It's only that most of their owners are unbearable. Especially on Yahoo.
P.S. Stop asking totally moronic questions and take your dog for a walk.
