Our female chihuahua just had puppies about 3 days ago. She had 6, one was stillborn, and another was much smaller than the others. He hasn't been nursing from his mother, and so we got some formula from the vet and have been bottle feeding him. se seemed to be swallowing and digesting. we've been waking up every 2 hours to feed him.
At first his mother would whine like crazy and try to jump out of the box when we took him out to feed him, but now when we put him in the box, she grabbed him in her mouth and threw him against the side of the box!

Help!?

Obviously you cannot put him in the box with her. He's all yours now.

Welcome to the wonderful world of dog breeding.

You are going to have to keep feeding and raising this pup. Sounds like you are going to have to protect him from her as well. Is she mothering the rest of the litter okay? If she has rejected this pup, keep an eye on her to be sure she's caring for the others and not hurting them. Is she very young? Some dogs that have a litter too young, just have not developed the instinct for mothering.

Once you start bottle feeding, in my experience you always bottle feed...Or there could be something wrong with the pup that the mom can sense and this is how nature deals with the survival of the fittest! Continue to feed and you can also continue to try to introduce the pup back into the liter. Stay close to insure that Mom doesn't kill the baby.

GOOD LUCK.

Is this her first litter? Since she had a cesarean, she does not realize they are hers -- she went to sleep and then was thrown into a box with a bunch a little things trying to suck on her sore tummy. Give her time to feel better, but go get puppy milk and bottles for now. Don't forget to wipe their bottoms with a warm washcloth to make them go potty after wards. Keep trying to have mom nurse them - every few hours till she can take over.

If she is rejecting him that strongly, you will need a box and a heating bad (set on LOW) and continue to feed him every 2 hrs.

If he is nursing from the bottle with ease, sit with the mother and slide him in to nurse from her WHILE YOU ARE PRESENT ONLY. I would not recommend leaving him with her unsupervised. If you can get him to nurse from the mother and continue to suppliment the feedings with a bottle, he will have a chance.

Make sure you are stimulating the pups privates to make him eliminate.

I would not put the puppy backin with the mother if she is going to forcefully reject him. Some mothers have been known to kill puppies that they reject. I would get a box to put him in and continue feeding him.

But you need to talk to a vet and learn how to stimulate the baby to go to the bathroom if the mother is not availble. Or it will get sick and possibly die.

But most of all I would consult a vet.

you may need to put him in a secure area with a heating pad.
Have you been stimulating him to go to the bathroom??
I hate to say but there is probably an undrlying problem that the mom senses and more than likely going to die.
All you can do is totally seperate the pup form mom and try your best.

Oh my, try relaxing momma to lay down while you put the pups on her nipples and then praising momma on the correct behavior and if he acts up correct it to the right way. If shes not old enough to breed then its a lack of sense .. id get her fixed if she wont take care of her puppies

don't put her with the mom.... when it's nursing time for the other puppies take her away from the mom and return her back to the other puppies when mom isn't around.
