How can we prevent tics from getting on Otis? He likes to play in the tall weeds...that's probably where he gets them.

My 3 month old shiba inu just went around the streets and that my docter said that he can go walk around but to not go near the dogs. Is that true? He had his parvo distemper vaccination already. Is he going to get sick by just walking three blocks? All the time I kept him walking, not sniffing on anything. My neighbor says he shouldn't go out in streets untill he is 5 months. Now, I am scared! Should I disregard my docter and keep him home untill he is 5 months?

My dog is a Pomeranian boy. He's been getting my stuffed animals and putting his mouth on it and sucking. It's the weirdest thing, but it's so cute. My family and I call it his "baby". He was taken away from his mom and sister pretty early, so maybe it has to do with that? Maybe he think it's her? haha, I don't know. Please give me any ideas!

To everyone who answered, thank you. He was just too sick. His kidneys and his liver went into failure. He was rotting from the inside out in his mouth. We made the decision to stop the suffering. That was the most difficult thing I have ever had to do. My vet says it was for the best, but that doesn't make my heart stop hurting. If your dog gets bit by a CottonMouth snake get ready for devistation.

he got his tongue cut while they were trimming his face. it is sort of split at the tip. he refuses to eat. i'm sure it hurts. but also, he got cut so short (i'm never going back there again) that i think he is actually ashamed of his hair cut because he won't do anything he used to do and just sits or sleeps. he won't play or wag his tail or follow me around like he used to. i'm new to having puppies. what should i do to help him eat? how long will he be so mopey? will he ever go back to his normal self?

Please keep it civil and keep it nice. I just wanted to read WHY we are for or against designer dogs. Russian-novel length answers are okay, but please don't tear others down. Try not to judge others' answers. Keep it kind.

Without further ado, the question is...

Why do you think designer dogs (mixes of recognized breeds) should or should not be bred?

I have a 5 year old Chihuahua and she is gorgeous. She was my mothers and my mother had bred her once before. now that she is mine I was wondering how long I should wait to breed her after she has gone into heat.

So I was leaving work yesterday and around the corner came this, GORGEOUS blue and white pitbull, and scared the living bajeesus out of me. He had no collar, but was neutered. Anyways, I knelt down to pet his cute little buns, and he was giving me kisses and what not, anyways, long story short... I really thought about picking him up and taking him home with me cuz he was SO damn gorgeous, but I knew someone was probably missing him. Later on that evening, as I found out today, his owner located him (apparently he ran off, famous pitbull move) and was BEATING him senseless in my work parking lot because he ran off. Now I feel completely guilty that I DIDN'T just take him home and love and care for him like he should have been...
What would you guys do in this situation? Apparently he comes around a lot, should I nab him next time, or am I over stepping my boundaries? I'm just so mad and angry that someone could hit him like that, he was SOOO sweet.
Thoughts?

Do you think its cruel, irresponsible, neglectful to allow a dog to be free instead of caged up or tied up?

Or, do you think its cruel, irresponsible, neglectful to always have a dog tied up or caged up?

Are you for or against either one of these......and why?

I deleted it, but I wanted to thank everyone for your input. I didn't delete it because I couldn't handle the criticism and advice- I didn't intend to keep it active in the first place. I got a lot of helpful responses and have taken it all to heart.

Thank you all for your help, concern and time. I'll update the situation when appropriate.

She is a 4 yr old spayed female. I am moving and not able to take her. She is gentle and believes she is a lap dog. She is current on all shots. She does well with adults and kids but the kids should be older roughhousing makes her to protective. She gets along with all other dogs but does not like cats. She is housebroken and loves to run and play a lot, so a larger area would be nice
She can shake hands and give a high 5
If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it a lot
Thanx

First off, my dog is a husky/akita mix. I know they tend to dig. A little does not bother me, but this is getting ridiculous! I used to keep her tied up because she would escape the yard. She dug constantly. I talked to a dog trainer and they said if she is off the chain then she will quit digging. The fence was replaced and now she is untied. She quit digging for a couple weeks, but now is back at it again. I have tried to just about everything. I heard putting chicken wire under the dirt. She is sporatic on where she digs so that really wont work unless i do the whole yard. I have put her poo in a hole she has dug and that hole she never touched again. Problem there is i havent seen her poo in weeks. have two dogs, hard to know whose is whose. Lately she has been digging under the house. This hole keeps getting bigger and bigger. I am at a loss...is there anything else to try or any advice out there? I am about ready to put duck tape on her feet.

hey,
I have a little shih tzu (Harvey) and a golden retriever (Harry) who always fight with each other when people are around. Harry especially gets jealous whenever people pay any attention to Harvey which often results in us not being able to be around Harvey muh. Harvey always seems to be fine and sometimes provoces the other but i'm worried that he will get hurt as Harry often knocks him out the way or almosts sits on him, and hes alot bigger than Harvey is!
They're both just being playful but im just conerned that one day it could result in something much worse.
How can we stop them from doing this?

I have three wonderful pitbulls. I take them to petsmart all the time and socialize them. Some people absolutely love them, but then there's that stupid person who get's out of line just to avoid my precious, well-mannered bullies. I think it's the way you raise the pitbulls that makes them have the bad rep. Also the breeders are imbreeding these dog's. they are the most loyal dogs to me. They even live with cats and nurse stray kittens sometimes. My motto is...... punish the Deed, not the Breed. what do you think?

Once he is done with it, he very calmly and invariably puts his paws into his pee, to walk over the "pool of urine" thus soiling them with his own pee! or the urine just flows downstream to make his paws wet. when ll he start picking his rear leg? Also tell me when should a GSD start "marking" his territory...?

Shes 5 months old, and I give her the appropriate topical medicine once a month, actually twice this month because she keeps scratching. I used a cheaper brand than the stuff you get at the vet, but it shoudl still work right. She keeps scratching, and a friend of mine said that puppies just scratch, but I mean, she is ALWAYS scratching. What should I do?
