To everyone who answered, thank you. He was just too sick. His kidneys and his liver went into failure. He was rotting from the inside out in his mouth. We made the decision to stop the suffering. That was the most difficult thing I have ever had to do. My vet says it was for the best, but that doesn't make my heart stop hurting. If your dog gets bit by a CottonMouth snake get ready for devistation.

I"m sorry but only time will help but here is a poem that might help some::

PUT ME TO REST

Time to let me go my friend,
Because my life no-one can mend,
Its better to let me go this way,
Than watch me suffer night and day.

I'm happy to go, my time has come,
My quality of life is no longer fun,
Ive been so ill, so its not a bad thing,
To let me go forever resting.

Stay with me till I drift away,
Fast asleep forever I pray,
To relieve me from suffering and pain,
What more can I ask from my best friend.

Don't be sad, I'll be free from pain,
Never to be ill ever again,
I know you'll miss me being there,
But all the memories you have to share.

Thankyou for being my best friend,
And all my needs that you did tend,
Try not to be sad, try not to cry,
Now's the time to say GOODBYE

I'm so sorry. I know what it's like to lose an animal that is close to you, and to think that he may have suffered. I lost my dog in a house fire. I still think about him every day. Here's a poem for you:
With tears of grief and heavy hearts
we said goodbye to you.
Animal friends as sweet as you
have been a precious few.
You stayed with us and played with us
and gave us all your love.
Now we give the gift of peace to you
and thank the Lord above
for the years you joined our family
with your patient gentle face
We'll always keep you deep inside our hearts
in a very special place.
All the memories you made with us
are surely here to stay,
for what love has already given us
death could never take away.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You did make the best decision, even though it is a horribly difficult one.

Your heart will ache for a long time, but you will start thinking more and more of all the wonderful times you and your family had with your dog.

Know in your heart that he is no longer in pain, and will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm very very sorry. You should make a scrap book of all the pics with your dog and you or your dog and the family and keep it to remember all the times with your loving canine friend. Its hard, and I'm not saying to get over it, because it does take time, but I'm 110% positive that he thanks you for stopping the suffering. He will always be in your heart.

I'm so sorry :(

Be strong and focus on the happy times you had. Be grateful that you two enjoyed each other for the time that you did. Remember, grieving is a process, everyone experiences it at some point- that doesn't make it easier though. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I am really sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is so hard. You never get over it but you learn to cope. Just think of all the memories and watch this: http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html

It really helped me when I lost Dakota. Made me believe there was a good place for her to go to and wait for me.
