He chewed it up NOT because he 'thought it would make you mad', dogs don't think that way.
Look at it a different way. BEFORE getting mad at him, try to figure out why he may have done it----from a 'dog's way of thinking'.
If it was one of your favorite shoes, he chewed it because it has a strong scent---of you! Perhaps he was anxious, bored, needs a walk/exercise, or needs attention.
Whatever it was, the damage is already done and he will have no idea why you are throwing the shoe at him....Careful, you may be encouraging him to play a game of 'fetch'.........
Woof.
And please, if you are mad at him, go somewhere else and calm down first. Then decide in a positive way how to make sure it never happens again.

No. When you see your dog go after a shoe, tell him NO. Be consistent. Keep your shoes where the dog cant get them. some people give the dog an old shoe-but the dog dosnt know old shoes form new shoes so this is not a good idea.

NO, It is not a good punishment.
Infact its one of the worst things you could of done..
if you keep this up your dog will be scared of you, and will live under fear. Now what would be A good punishment would be to lightly smudge the shoe into his face A little and say "NO!" with A serious voice.

No. If a child colored your shoe with a permanent marker, would you throw the shoe at the child? Absolutely not. It's not your dog's fault...it's yours. Throw a shoe at yourself the next time your dog chews on one.

Never hit your dog on the head. Try to refrain from hitting your dog period. But when your dog does that, crating them is the best thing you can do. give it a special name so the dog knows it is a bad place to go and that he/she goes there only when doing something bad.
I used it on my beagle for the first year, worked like a charm. We called it Poovy, (pooch, juvy). She knew when she was doing something because I would ask her if she wanted to go there and she would stop immediately. No she only plays with her own toys. Doesn't even touch her brother's toys...he's a cat.

Not only is it pointless, it's completely unnecessary. A dog doesn't know why it's getting hit in the head. Besides, it's over with now, so what's the point of asking? I saw your other question, and I don't think you should even own a dog.

Are you kidding me!? Hurting your dog is completely unneccesary. Next time try taking it away with a firm NO, and REPLACE IT WITH AND APPROPRIATE CHEW TOY. They can't read your mind and have to LEARN what is and isn't ok to play with! Throwing things at him is just going to make him scared and doesn't get the message through like replacing a negative behavior with a positve.

well it is a threat telling him that the next time he chews up a shoe he will get hit....but there are better ways to handle the situation...i suggest you watch DOG WHISPERER in the national geographic channel...its a great show that teaches you how to train and treat your dog
