he got his tongue cut while they were trimming his face. it is sort of split at the tip. he refuses to eat. i'm sure it hurts. but also, he got cut so short (i'm never going back there again) that i think he is actually ashamed of his hair cut because he won't do anything he used to do and just sits or sleeps. he won't play or wag his tail or follow me around like he used to. i'm new to having puppies. what should i do to help him eat? how long will he be so mopey? will he ever go back to his normal self?

when he got groomed, as well as cutting his hair way too short (much shorter than any other time he's been groomed - this is the 4th or 5th time he's been groomed and i've been told that he behaves very well - better than some 2 and 3 year olds), they cut his tongue and nipped his shoulder and front leg. total chop job! i already paid unfortunately and because this was a recommendation from a friend, i didn't want to start trouble in a small store with a small town store's owner. anyway, i took him to the vet immediately and he said that his tongue will be fine and he gave me a spray for his other cuts. i'm just wondering why he's mopey. is it from his tongue? i initially thought so, but he loves to give kisses and he still does and he doesn't seem like he's in pain. and he's not focused enough on his other cuts. he is however just laying around, doesn't wag his tail as often as he used to and he just doesn't seem as happy. he doesn't play or anything just sits in my lap. Help!

I hope you didn't pay them for this chop job... Well your little guy is probably in pain, and he may be upset about his hair do. For the injury, I would call the vet and talk to them about what you should do for it. They may not want to see him. But you don't want to wait for the week end and find out it has gotten worse. They can probably tell you what to watch for. I would think swelling, infection, etc. But call and talk to them. As for the hair do. Just cuddle and love him. Tell him he looks pretty. He'll understand. Poor little guy. Dogs know when they look different he is probably not happy about it at all.

I think he's obviously feeling unwill. Have you taken him to the vet to treat his tongue? I would really recommend taking him to the vet to prescribe a medication to help him heal, otherwise it might cause infections. The vet could offer some medication that would help soothe the pain. I agree that he's very painful and that's why he wouldn't eat. I think he will eventually go back to himself, but AFTER he's cured.

In the meantime, do you feed him hard kibbles? If yes, try soften the kibbles with warm water before giving him. If would probably make him more comfortable when eating.

I really need to say this. That groomer is AWFUL! This is actually the first time I ever hear groomers cutting dog's tongue. Is it just me? or...

A good advise is to find a groomer that grooms by INDIVIDUAL appointments at a quiet private place. Sometimes... grooming stores are very busy, and they would do things TOO quickly. You could talk to your vet about this. They usually could recommend some nice groomers around the area.

If he eats kibbles, you could try soaking it in a little bit of water so it wouldn't be as hard and rub up against his tongue, or you could get him some wet food. The mopiness could just be that he is tired and stressed out from the whole ordeal, and he will probably be over it in a day or so. However, if he continues to act mopey after a few days, he should probably be checked out by a vet just to make sure he's okay. You might want to have his tongue checked out too, just in case, so it doesn't get infected. Your vet could probably also help you with getting him to eat.

He had a very bad experience at the groomers. Plus you should call or go back to the groomers to show or tell them what happened to your puppie's tongue. Does he have razor burns? Did he have a lot of mats when u took him to the groomers? Ask questions at the groomers to see if something else happened to him, maybe like falling off a table!?!?!?!?!?! Then I would take him to the vet to make sure he has no broken bones.
I believe they may have injured him somehow.

We have Shih Tzus and keep their hair long. We just like it better that way. Maybe your dog can sense that something is really different. Also, I hope that groomer wasn't abusive to your dog or anything. Seems like they were certainly not too careful. It does sound like he has anxiety or something. I hope he recups really fast! Lots of extra TLC for the little pup right now.

I certainly hope that you didn't pay them for his hair cut if they cut his tongue!

Dogs aren't really aware of the way that they look so I doubt it's his fur that's bothering him. Keep an eye on his cut and make sure it doesn't get infected. I'm sure he'll be back to his old self when that wound heals.

OMG, Im so glad to hear someone else talk about this. Not that Im happy about your poor puppy, But Iv been told I was crazy, because, I noticed my pomaranian, buddy, was depressed after he was shaved. He would acually hang his little head and just stand in one place for the longest time. He wouldnt eat or play, and kept his tail tucked under, for days. It was only after he got useed to it that he finaly came out of his depression. After that, I concidered renaming him samson. He came out of it after a few days, but never again will I cut his locks that short again...So dont worry, he'll come around, and be jus fine.... bless his heart......and shame on them for hurting him! :(

If your throat hurt or tounge you wouldnt want to get either. Try putting ice cubes in a dish, fresh chicken with garlic, mash patato and a small amount of milk. Only try soft food and stop worring as he knows your bending over backwards and will take advantage of you. If his none eating persistes take him to the vets and INSIST theres something wrong.

He is scared and in pain. You should take him to a VET to get some pain killers. Also, being so young he just might not have known what just happend. Try soft food, canned food with gravy to get him to eat again. All can first night, then mix it with the rest of his food. He will get better soon.
