My cocker spaniel has terrible fleas. I feel so awful for her, she's been gnawing on her leg and scratching 24/7. I found K9 Advantix 55 something or other, it's a monthly treatment. You have to apply a small tube of solution to 3 or 4 spots down the back of your dog. I did this about an hour ago, and I don't see how a tiny bit of solution on her back will get rid of the fleas on her legs and tummy.

Can somebody explain this to me?

OK so I've been wanting a powerful large breed. Ive always loved big dogs. My choices were Apbt, rottweiler, dogo argentino, American bulldog, bull mastiff, great Dane, English mastiff, or doberman pinscher, or maybe boxer. Then i narrowed it to rottweiler, doberman or bull mastiff or maybe English mastiff. Well i jog a lot and bike alot, and now i was walking my other dog ( Beauceron ) and this guy offered me an American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler mix. Its a puppy, and has all of his shots. I was wondering if i should get this puppy for only $50, and welcome him to my loving home, OR get one of the other dogs i mentioned from a professional breeder.

Do you also think it's cruelty to house cows outside? Because it does get cold! They have thin fur.. and really is hay enough to keep them warm? Or perhaps--horses? They don't have very good coats.

And outdoor cats, too! They usually survive.
'cause cats get out into the street..

But I don't understand how dogs -- dogs with thicker fur, and better protection (aka usually a dog-house, with blankets etc.) should be inside? Please, explain =)

okay well i have been looking up info on the Raw diet and it seems like people are giving their dogs chicken along with the chicken bones.
i am a little confused... ever since i can remember ive been told not to give dogs chicken bones because they are bad for them... so are they bad?

I own a 3 year old cocker spaniel. She is very sweet and affectionate. But as of recently she's been displaying a behavior i find myself quite curious about. My sister owns 3 ferrets, all to which my dog seems to get along with fine. She chases after them, pokes them with her nose. And the ferrets seem to play with her as well. My dog has NEVEr bitten them, only bark and display a playful attitude. But as of recently, im curious as to if she is bullying them or being protective, or what?

After my dog plays with the ferrets, she starts pawing at them, pulling them toward her and bringing them under her. When they walk away, she continues to paw at them. Why is she doing this? When she paws at them, sniffs them, it kind of looks like bullying, but when she pulls them under her, it looks otherwise.

Any idea of why she's doing this?

He is already on a pill called Rimadyl and gets an adiquin injection bi-weekly. He never winces or whines, but I feel it's progressing. The vet said it's not his time to "go" yet, but I want him to be as comfortable as possible. How come they haven't prescribed a painkiller?

She's 50/50 black lab and border collie, and we got her at 8 wks. She has figured out her "spot" at our house, but I have a dog-friendly workplace, so I can take her to work to keep an eye on her during the day. However, she absolutely REFUSES to eliminate while I'm at work. We're crate training her, and I have tried taking her to a small park across the street as well as to a secluded grassy area behind my work. She holds it all day and goes when we get home. Unfortunately, this means I can't let her out to play while at work, as she will go on the carpet. Suggestions???

The dogs know and love the neighbors who feed them treats often, not the son who is from across the country. One of my dogs bit the son on his arm and back, he is now sueing me. My dogs were confined to my yard by an invisable fence and he knowingly came over to see the dogs, doesn't he own some responsibility for the bite? This is an adult who was not invited to enter my yard. Though he says the dog jumped the line and pulled him into my yard. Impossible, like anyone who has an invisable fence would know, the shock knocks him on his ***. He's petrified of the beep which is given 18inches before the shock which is all on my property. Why should I be libel for someone's stupidity?

We do not have ticks or fleas here in Northern Utah. Other than her wearing her new colar, I wonder what else could be the cause of her acess itching. ?

However, the vet recommend that I have my shiz shu 5mg of valium, I am very hesistant but I do not want my dog to be too nervous since he can not ride in the cabin and has to go with the lugage. I have a 9 month old Beagle. She already was in heat about 3 months ago. I just noticed that she was bleeding again already this morning. It wasn't much blood and it was very light in color. I am thinking its something other that heat? I plan on taking her to the vet but I cant get her in until this weekend. Is it something I should be worried about? I also noticed she has been likcing herself a lot the last few days but I didnt see blood until now.

I own a small 7 month APBT who's only about 35 lbs, but all APBT owners know how strong their dogs can be no matter their size. When we go on walks he gets a little excited and he pulls. It's not a crazy pull but it is aggravating when you're trying to go on a nice walk and he's pulling to go sniff this bush or to go try to pick up that stick.
Does anyone know of a good, durable no-pull safe harness (no choke collar) for him?

she has abcessed boobs that are huge and very painful. The vet says shes too old for anesthesia they said just to put her to sleep...but I feel as if the dog still has a few good years left in her. despite the problem, shes very playful still and happy, what i am wondering, is there possible a way the vet could maybe use sedatives instead of anesthesia to operate and remove these masses?

He has been to vet and we got told that he has too much gluten in his food causing the diarheoa. We changed him to a gluten free diet but that has still not worked. We have tried dulco ease and kaline and morphine as we were told, to hopefully help stop the diarehoa but that has still not worked. What the hell is wrong with my dog and what will help cure this terrible problem.
Many Thanks ppl !!
