My cocker spaniel has terrible fleas. I feel so awful for her, she's been gnawing on her leg and scratching 24/7. I found K9 Advantix 55 something or other, it's a monthly treatment. You have to apply a small tube of solution to 3 or 4 spots down the back of your dog. I did this about an hour ago, and I don't see how a tiny bit of solution on her back will get rid of the fleas on her legs and tummy.

Can somebody explain this to me?

Spot-on solutions spread throughout the skin by use of the skin glands. It takes 24 hours for them to kill all the fleas. BUT you MUST make sure the stuff has got on the skin of the dog, NOT the fur, or it can't spread through the skin and won't work.

It's also important that you get a veterinary housespray to treat your house, as this is where 95% of the fleas are, whether you see them or not.

EDIT, no DON'T use a flea shampoo, they don't work!!

Advantix and K9 Advantix are the same product. They are part of the Advantage family which markets Advantage, Advantix and Advocate. The packaging is different for each country/area of the world because it has to conform to the labeling standards.

It works very well, it also keeps ticks off as well as fleas - but you need to apply it every single month
to keep your dog flea free.

If she has fleas that badly and you need to get them all off fast, there is a pill, Capstar, that you can get from your vet - that gets all live fleas off her within an hour.

Be sure to put Advantix or Frontline on her every single month so that she doesn't become infested again. The liquid gets into your dogs skin and system and prevents fleas from attacking her if used regularly.

what it does is it soaks into the skin of your dog and your dog releases it through it's entire skin and it takes like 24 hours to take effect but the chemicals in it the fleas don't like and so they fall off or die. I still advise washing your dog in a day or two with flea shampoo and your carpets with flea powders cuz they can hide in your carpets and your dog can get them again
