He has been to vet and we got told that he has too much gluten in his food causing the diarheoa. We changed him to a gluten free diet but that has still not worked. We have tried dulco ease and kaline and morphine as we were told, to hopefully help stop the diarehoa but that has still not worked. What the hell is wrong with my dog and what will help cure this terrible problem.
Many Thanks ppl !!
Iain

your dog could have sibo (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). there are blood tests your vet can do to confirm this (b12 and folate). sibo can be a pain in the *** to gain control of. generally treatment includes being on metronidazole, probiotics, and a hypoallergenic food (ie venison, duck, rabbit, buffalo). absolutely NO chicken or beef! sometimes you have to try different diets to find one that works. talk to your vet about sibo or find one that is familiar with it and make sure you have his b12 and folate levels checked. those two tests will confirm sibo.

First, I'd go to another vet - there is medication that can be given to stop the loose bowels. If your vet hasn't done that yet, I'd take him to someone else for a second opinion. Dehydration usually happens when diarrhea is present so make sure your dog is getting lots of water. You may want to give him some Pedilyte in the water. You can get this in the baby isle at the grocery store. Diarrhea is something that can be cause by lots of things, so I'd still say, take him to a different vet. Two months is a long time so obviously something other then the food is wrong with him. Good luck

Okay, the Vet said to get the dog off gluten, but some dogs also react to common meat ingredients in dog food. So try and get your dog on something like Nature's Recipe Venison and Rice blend, it has no gluten, no corn or wheat and Venison is often tolerated better for dogs with sensitive stomachs.
Change the food gradually. Also get some Pumpkin Pie Filling from the grocery store- the PLAIN kind, not the easy kind that has sugar and spices added.
Feed your dog twice a day, portion divided between each meal and give some pumpkin pie filling, (for digestive upset, I give my sixty lb. dogs about a forth to a half a small can at a time) following up with more ( forth cup or less depending on size of dog) after each loose movement.
I have three dogs. One is sensitive to lamb in dog food, and one is sensitive to chicken in dog food. That is why I feed all three the Venison and Rice blend. I don't recommend Nutro Venison and brown rice because it has a lot of gluten product in it.
It could be that the atypical meat, Venison, is something your dog will tolerate.
I think Flint River Ranch may have a good Venison blend as well.
I am not a Vet, but I have fostered lots of rescues and pumpkin pie filling is the best thing I have found for diarrhea.
I got that tip from my Vet.
Did your Vet test for Giardia or any parasites like that? I would imagine that he did.

Time to take your dog to a different vet for a second opinion, to me it sounds like diet problems. What are you feeding him? Try a higher quality diet. Also, most dogs can't handle grain foods, so try a kibble without grains.

You can also try a barf diet (bones and raw food). A raw diet is a very good idea, and goes along well with a dogs natural diet, being a carnivore.

Another good suggestion someone has said, is checking your dog for worms, most worms cause diarrhea in dogs.

There's a medicine called Pet Pectillin. Try the Foster & Smith catalog/site. They're at www.drsfostersmith.com. You may need to ask your vet for prescription food. Science Diet does sell and over the counter kind for sensitive stomachs.

I would go back to the vet, WITH a stool sample and ask for tests to be done. Whilst gluten intolerance is one of the more common triggers for digestive upsets, it is often used as the 'answer all'. Lots of other things can be at the root......it is even becoming common for dogs to be intolerant to rice, which is the basis of most hypo-allergenic diets!
Go back to your vet, explain that you are SURE that your dog has not had ANY gluten since whatever date, and ask him or her to investigate further.
Good luck
=)

Did the vet deworm the dog? Worms will give some dogs diarreah, although the gas problem sounds like a food issue.

It's got to be a diet problem. Try Canidae food. Or try other types of really good food, not anything from a grocery store or Walmart.

Try Pedialite, I can't tell what is wrong with your dog, but for sure what will stop the diahrea.

PEDIALITE: Prevents diahrea and dehydration.
