She's 50/50 black lab and border collie, and we got her at 8 wks. She has figured out her "spot" at our house, but I have a dog-friendly workplace, so I can take her to work to keep an eye on her during the day. However, she absolutely REFUSES to eliminate while I'm at work. We're crate training her, and I have tried taking her to a small park across the street as well as to a secluded grassy area behind my work. She holds it all day and goes when we get home. Unfortunately, this means I can't let her out to play while at work, as she will go on the carpet. Suggestions???

She is young and it will take her awhile to "get it". Sounds like she has mastered the crate, this will be a new challenge for both of you; here are a few pointers:
1. Take her to the same spot each time
2. If there is an older female at work, take her with you, she will mark a spot, puppy will be curious and want to check it out. Puppy smells urine & light comes on!
3. Take small soft treats (something other than what you would normally give her) when you take her out, say something like "Outside, Potty" in an upbeat voice and go straight to the area that you want her to eliminate in, walking her around the area repeating the same phrase. When she eliminates, praise her & give treat.
4. It s a good idea to use a longer lead so that she can have a little space to get used to eliminating while being watched.
Additionally, the key to succesful training is consistency, make usre that everyone in the household is using the same verbage and that you work with her at home as well as at work.

Best of Luck

Baby animals of all kinds need training. You are doing all the right things by crate training and the like. You need to make sure that you only give her water when she eats.

A couple of other suggestions:

Try feeding her outside. She will then wander the yard after eating.

Another tactic that dog trainers use is to make a game out of it. Cut up some hotdogs and give one small piece to the dog. Then when she relieves herself outside give her another piece. Do this each time at first and then taper off as to every other time and then not at all. By that time she will use the outside without treats.

You need a doggie door. But she is a little young to use one with out help.

Hope this helps

Try bringing a paper towel with her urine on it. Place it in the area you want her to go and see if that works.
You can also try the match-stick method...gross, but works.
