Of course yelling doesn't help - does it ever help anything? Why is he on a leash outside? He is most likely: bored, stressed, lonely, etc. He needs physical and mental stimulation and you need to provide that, just like you need to provide food, water and shelter. I highly recommend a basic obedience class for you both, for starters. And then, you will need to keep him occupied and engaged - GSDs are very smart (read: easily bored) dogs.

If she is spending nearly all the time in a crate- what do you think the problem is? She's bored, lonely, frustrated! She needs to have more freedom and short frequent walks throughout the day. She needs to be meeting other dogs and people outside the home so x4 15 minute walks a day should be occurring everyday. You should play with her with her toys several times a day too. She would be tired then and want to sleep when you put her in her crate. On a night, she has been used to sleeping with mum and all her litter mates, then all of a sudden she has ended up in a strange environment and left alone all night. It doesn't teach them to accept being alone by leaving them to cry all night. You can actually create a separation anxiety problem in later life by leaving them to cry for hours and hours as a puppy. Why don't you take the crate upstairs into your room so the puppy can have a decent nights sleep and so can you. As she gets older you can gradually move the crate nearer and nearer to the door until she is back downstairs where you originally wanted her. You have to compromise. She is a baby and needs comfort and company when she is scared. You'd probably find when she has had a better nights sleep, spends more time with you, gets to go out and play more frequently, she will stop being so noisy and much happier.

Why is he tied out in the yard? He's just a baby. He may be full grown but in his years he is only 7.
If I was tied out in the yard I'd make as much noise as I could.
He is probably wanting you to come let it off the leash. Begging you...... He loves you SO much & doesn't want to be excluded from the only family he knows.
Let him be part of the pack & teach him what you want him to know. No, yelling don't work. It only builds up your own anxiety.
Take him to obedience classes, they teach you how to teach your dog. Plus, there will be many things in class to laugh about. All the ackward dogs & owners. It is fun.
You could also get a couple books on dog training that can start at the bare bottom & on up to advanced training.
Work with him. Don't tie him out. He'll be a better friend of you do.

Don't yell. Spend time with him, be calm. Go for a walk. He is probably lonely and scared. You can't just leave him outside all alone. Dogs are social animals and need attention.

I know there are dog collars that will give him a little charge when he barks. I don't know if that is something you want to do or not, but it is all I can think of.

every time your dog barks throw a throw can at him (an empty soda can with 5 or six pennies in it taped shut) and yell no really loud at the same time and put a little bit of lemon juice on his toungue not alot but after a short period of time your dog will learn to associate you saying no to a loud noise and lemon juice (which they hate) and stop as soon as you say no!
hope this helps

Hmm... Bring him inside! Or go outside and talk to him. In a calm Voice. Did you give him plenty of exersize today? Go and take him for an extra long walk/run. See if that helps! If not, then l dunno. Good Luck!
