I Know that I shouldn't give my table scraps to my dogs, but the truth is the is easier saying than done.I just can NOT resist the way that they stare at me when i'm eating something....I feel that I should share the food with them. They know that if they persist ,I'll give in. I've been giving milk to my 3 dogs and my fosters is that okay?!

We are a family of four with two children: 13 & 10. We want a big or medium sized dog but not any of the fighting or 'dangerous' types.

I am actually afraid of big dogs, so lets keep it at small breeds. My brother, who is 10 years old, would like a playful one, one that would play with him when he is bored. My mom and dad though would like one that doesn't bark in the middle of the night or sheds up a carpet. Please help us deside which breed to get!!

There is definately a difference when the groomer bathes my dog and when I bathe him. I've tried everything to get that groomer clean scent but have had no luck. He's a short haired breed and rather easy to bathe but when I do it, he still smells like a dog. Is there a certain shampoo I don't know about? Thanks in advance.

We have 2 min. dachsunds - a 12 yr.old spayed female and a 9 yr.old neutered male. The male, Penny, thinks I am his mommy and follows me everywhere and sleeps right next to me. The female, Nike, is a little more independent. She doesn't mind having a life of her own. I'm a stay at home mom, with a son in college and a 15 yr.old son at home. We are huge pet lovers. We saw the sweetest 4 year old abandoned dachsund at a shelter and want to adopt her. She has been spayed and has all her shots. She is a calm, loving dog who is used to running around and playing with a lot of different dogs without a problem. How in the world do I bring her in the house without a lot of chaos with our other two, especially Penny? We are supposed to pick her up at 1:30 today. Any quick suggestions from my fellow animal lovers out there? Your help will be greatly appreciated, I promise! Thank you in advance.

I have hip problem and also a 73 year old grandmother who lives with me. We have 3 dogs that really love us and we love them, but they are always under our feet when we try to walk from one room to another. I am afraid I will step on one of them and hurt'em or one of us trip and fall. I have tried using a sharp voice and telling them to "move it!" and lightly booting them in the butt( not kicking ). I am out of Ideas. I put a this same question on last night and got a couple good ideas but would like as much input or as many various ideas as I can get (better chance of finding something that works)

The dog are of various ages and I just started training them about 3 months ago. They are very smart( I wish I had trained them earlier!) They know sit, down, crawl, stay, up(on 2 legs ), dance(going in circles on two legs ), and speak. We are working on playing dead at the moment. They are so smart it is amazing how quick they catch on!

Okay, I need some serious help. My dogs hair is always
a. matted
or
b. knotted.

We brush her everyday. She has long , fluffy hair. She just got her ears shaved off because they were matted. What should I do? Help!!
What I don't need is someone telling me I don't take care of her, because I do, and I know that!

I just brushed her for half an hour trying to get the knots out and it didn't help. I got about half of them out.
I don't need any thing rude, maybe just some brushing tips and stuff.
Thanks!

I have been trying to make him comfortable, thinking he was ready to go. However, he has moments of alertness and keeps getting out of bed to go outside or drink water. I cannot get him to eat anything. He does not seem to be in any pain, but surely he can't continue this way.

I am and moving to the seaside (Bournemouth) next year with my partner, we are looking to buy a flat close to the beach so plenty of excersise and water to play in and cool of in the summer (we would prefer a dog who enjoys the sea/water), but it will be on the ground floor although there will be no garden I will be working part time and he will be a student also, so we wont be around alot but when we are or when I have a day off I'll walk it as I am active myself. We liked the look of a dougue de bordeux, boxer and a char pei but we dont think they would be suited to us, we are looking for an easy to train dog and we both have experience with dogs and the money to keep one (and the home will be permanent and will try and get one with a garden if possible but we are looking for a long term rent, so we wont be moving around), any reccomendations of a breed or dog please??

my other dog when she was a puppy, she was wary at strangers and now, my new shepherd puppy is not wary at strangers. i expect him to be tough yet gentle but i think he does not care at strangers at all. how can he be a guard dog if he is not wary at strangers? all he know is to eat and eat, that is the time he barks because he is hungry.

thanks

I'm aware that he will need his hip, eye and elbow scores before I offer him up for stud, but I'm wondering when to book him in for these. He is one year old today but I'm not sure how desirable a one year old stud would be either. Is it best to wait until he is 2 or so?

My aim is to get him (and us) experienced at it before breeding him with my mother's ***** (perfect match) in about a year and a half.

I'm well aware that it might change his personality etc etc so please don't preach :)

I just found out that the woman who is offering me a 9-month old JRT x Collie has been back yard breeding. Her 4-year-old Westie had already 25 pups. She says that she is neutering and spaying her dogs now (she currently has 10), but I am not too sure, as one of the dogs seems to be pregnant again.
I had one of her dogs for a day to see how it gets on with my dog, and it is lovely, apart from not being trained at all.
On one hand I am worried about this dog, on the other hand I don't want to make space for her to have more pups.
My motto is: Don't breed or buy whilst homeless die. So in this case, I am not too sure. She is giving several dog away for free now, but I still don't feel very sure.
