As if the week couldn't get any worse. I was teaching my dog how to shake and he got hold of the bag that the small treats come in. The bag was probably about 3in x 3in and had a small piece of paper inside of it. He didn't cough or gag or anything, it was like one swift motion he inhaled it. He is a 13 week puppy, Weimaraner to be exact and is about 2 feet long and a foot high. What should i do, wait for it to pass, play it out to see if he starts to show signs, go to the vet right away?

A lady who was obviously unfit to take care of a litter of puppies (they were dirty and neglected) gave me a couple 3 week old pups. They are a german shepherd/golden retriever mix.

Isn't that way too early for them to be separated from their mom?? She already had them in a separate room because she said the mom was annoyed by them, so I didn't feel guilty taking 3 of them to my house where they would be taken care of better.

They cry ALL THE TIME! I know puppies probably cry a lot but if they're not sleeping they cry until I come and hold them.. I feed them twice a day and they always have water so I can't think of any reason why other than they miss their mom?

They were so dirty that I gave them a bath, and one of them was shaking a lot, even after she was dry. It wasn't because they were too young to bathe was it?

Will they have a hard time being separated when its time for them to go to new homes? When do you think is the right time to separate them?

I have a Mastiff and Rott. I am moving into a new house were the drain for the A/C comes out a rubber hose into the yard. If I remove the hose or burry it my warranty will be void. My dogs will chew it up in about 10 seconds. Any suggestions on how to protect it from the dogs. I also forgot to mention the no chew sprays do not work on my dogs, even tried habenro sauce and it did not phase them.

I have a 4 year old basset hound who is a total character typically running and barking and just full of energy, but yesterday it all stopped. He is very lethargic, and has great difficulty in climbing even the 3 steps from the yard to back door. I have to pick him up. It looks like its painful but he does not cry. I took him for a walk last night and he seemed fine. Bowel and bladder are working..phew! Interacting with the environment but he is just off. He is hardly eating too which is just not like him. Should I do..give it another day or off to the vet now?

We had puppies (half Shih-Tzu) and there are four. They all have ears but it doesn't look like they have any holes for their ear canals. My mother has had tons of dogs throughout the years, and she said she's never seen something like this before. But, we have never had this breed of dog before. We didn't know if it was a characterstic and it was ok, like we just were missing something.
Any help would be great! The puppies are 3 days old by the way.

We have all had questions asked or answered here that blew us away. Some made us mad, some laugh, some cry and some were so stupid we scratched our heads. What was the one question/answer that sticks in your mind the most?

I have ten dogs and they follow me all the time and everywhere but thats not the problem the problem is that they cant be withought me if i enter to the bathroom they all start crying to go in the bathroom with me.
they sleep with me etc.
i work at home so most of the time i am with them
and whene i go out and dont take them with me they get depressed one time that i left them one week with a friend i found two of them sick they didnt want to eat so they got sick, and my chihuahua was so depressed that he didnt want to play or even walk and he gained 3lb. Idont want them to depend so much on me.
next year i am planing to go on vacations 1month and leave them on a pet hotel i know they will take good care from them but i dont want them to suffer to much when i am not with them because if they suffer i also suffer!
why do they do that?
how can i stop them to suffer when i go?
how can i do for them not to depend to much from me??

I will thank you a lot!!!

I absoulutely love pugs and puggles!!! I have to show my mom resposibility, which i have done for the past week and i have to go all the way up to Christmas. I had some behaviorul issues like talking back and being sassy, so now i decided i need to stop and take my parents out of there fuss over me! Part of the reason is that and also we have cats. Fighting cats towards each other. They're on and off. they only usually fight in the summer, there moods change like the seasons ( i hope they stop right after fall ends!). Anyways back to pugs and puggles. I really want one! Whcih one is better? which one is better with people and cats?? Experienced owners are specifally needed. Thanks soooo much!

My friend's co-worker was giving her 5 yr. terrier-mix away for she was leaving for NC and couldn't take the dog. My husband and I always wanted a dog but a puppy would have been too much work. The 5 yr is house-broken but still seems to "beg" while we are at the dinner table while she's got food down. Now through the friend we did found out she was fed table food.

So the question is How can we break her of it?
I know she has the taste for people food and that's fine we'll give her scraps I'm just concern for my kids walking around with food and having her grab it.

ANY suggestions??

Pet owners: In your past, before you became the responsible caretaker you now are, did you ever ignorantly neglect an animal? If you did, what was the outcome? How did it affect your decisions to care for animals in the future? What helped you correct your negligence and how would you pass that learning experience on to others who may mean well but don't have a clue?

Here's my instance: Winning all the goldfish at the county fair by throwing a PingPong ball, and then dumping them all into one small tank with no real working filter and no clue how to care for them- of course they died quickly. My parents knew nothing about fish but forbid me to ever have more until I learned everything I could about them. Six years later, I was working in a pet store and specializing in fish and small animals. (And had 3 big fish tanks in my apartment!)

What have you learned the hard way? Share, please, I think it would be educational. Thanks!

Does anyone know one? where dogs like pit bulls, retrievers and other bigger dogs aren’t allowed?

My sheltie was debarked before we got her. When I found out what that meant [taking the voice box out] i felt HORRIBLE. We didn't know that they had done it to her, but the woman we bought her from had already had her debarked for free because she has a kennel, etc. It makes me so depressed when she trys to bark because it sounds like a cry. But when I hear my other little one bark like crazy it makes me glad it happened. I guess it depends on the situation but I don't agree with it personally! Have you ever considered/done that to your dogs and why?
