He takes heartgaurd every month and has never missed a dose. I don't understand why my veterinarian makes me test him every year. Can someone please explain to me why he needs to be tested yearly? Thank you!

We've seen it all too often, people come here wanting advice on "what breed should I get a snickerdoodlepoo or a whatchamacallit?"....Then get offended when we point out that their dog isn't a "breed" but a mix or a mutt....
If they WANT a BREED of dog, why don't they get a purebred to start with?
Do you think it's because they want something "different"?
Are they falling for the "it's the newest rarest breed" crap?
Also, anyone that has BOUGHT one of these mixes (NOT ADOPTED), would you please enlighten me as to why?
My inquiring mind wants to know......BE HONEST!

I am interested in adding a Pyr to the family and have some questions. I have talked to breeders and it seems that I am getting different answers from each one.

Are they aggressive towards the same sex? I am interested in getting a male, but there are 2 neutered male Jack Russell terriers living next door. Could this be a problem?

Do they like Obedience type work? I have heard that they don't and that they aren't food or toy motivated....

I have 2 spayed females (Husky and Bernese Mtn dog) would a male be the best choice to add to the family?

Do they like to be the Alpha dog?

I love their calm nature, just the right size for me and the gentleness that they have. I know they were also bred for guarding. I don't want a dog that is going to be aggressive towards the neighbors dogs.

Maybe this isn't the right breed for me at this time, which is why I am asking this group. I would like to know the experience you have had and your thoughts.

Thanks for your input:)

My boyfriend and I got a new puppy and were told he was a pure bred Australian Shepherd, but as you can see he doesn't exactly resemble a purebred. His ears stay perky, and he is pretty small with small paws and other features. He has the coloring of an Aussie, and the facial features, but what do you think. Click on the link and tell me what you believe he is...besides ADORABLE!!!!

The spot is itchy and the hair is falling out. He becomes upset when I try to stop him from scratching. He is a pekingnese and about two years old. He is an indoor dog and has all of his shots. Since it is the weekend, I am wondering does it require emergency care or can it wait a few days before going to the vet. I would also like to know what it could possibly be.

I've had several nasty e-mails sent to me here when I've stated in answering a question that it takes money to care for a dog or any pet for that matter. The e-mails have been to the tune of "all they need is love" and "you're mean".

I've also been told the same face to face.

Too many people without sufficient financial ability with dogs and then they try to "cure" illness themselves.

I don't mean one has to be rich but one needs a decent, steady and predictable income in order to properly care for a dog or any pet. Do you agree with this or disagree?

I have an around 14 month old Miniature Italian Greyhound.
She hasn't had all of her shots.

This evening I was playing with her when i noticed that between her vaginal area and her stomach http://seklym4.t35.com/hello.jpeg had swollen up and had become kinda hard. It feels chunky as though it was filled with play-doe chunks. I'm not sure if I am going to need to take her to the vet.
please help me possibly save my dog's life

I had my mother stop at the library after work this afternoon to pick up a list of labrador retriever books that Id like to read. We are going to be getting a pup soon.

She was having a conversation with the librarian who then told my mom that black labs are "vicious"....

I have never come across a black lab who was mean, but Ive only been around a couple...

I know labs are not mean animals so that statement seems ignorant. But, do the black ones tend to be "mean" at all? Or is this a bunch of nonesense?

Ive been hearing that alot of people think *any* large black dog is scary and are put off by them so they tend to label them. Is that true?
