My boyfriend and I got a new puppy and were told he was a pure bred Australian Shepherd, but as you can see he doesn't exactly resemble a purebred. His ears stay perky, and he is pretty small with small paws and other features. He has the coloring of an Aussie, and the facial features, but what do you think. Click on the link and tell me what you believe he is...besides ADORABLE!!!!

In most of the pictures he is 8-12 weeks old, and there are a couple in there of the first day we got him.. PLEASE HELP

I've been a pet groomer for 20 years and I know breeds like the back of my hand. He looks to me to have austrialian shepard in him, along with some spitz. His eyes scream spitz, along with his size. I don't see husky at all. Most husky mixes will have a least 1 blue eye and will "yawl "as opposed to whine or bark. He's got aussie in him, but is a little small for it. His eye features, ears and muzzle resemble a pomoranian as well. He could also have sheltie in him. He's what I call a Heinze 57 mix. A little of this and that. So my educated guess is he's an aussie/spitz/pom mix, and damn cute!!

Most Aussies are merle, but there are some that are mainly black. However your puppy doesn't look to be a purebred Aussie. Looks like there is some shepherd in there, and I also agree with the possibility of some spitz breed.
If his paws are pretty small, that hints there may be a smaller breed mixed in, as puppies that are a larger breed will have kinda large paws for their size. Aussies aren't that large, but they don't have tiny paws as puppies.

He does have the facial features and body features of an Aussie; you are correct. some aussies are born with a long tail and naturally perked ears. so; theres a good chance he could be an Aussie.

you truly have a adorable puppy, by the way! =)

When you bought this dog did you get the papers on this dog. Because if the person who gave or sold you dis dog didn't give you the papers on the dog then it might be a mutt. It looks like a shepherd mix to me. I have been raised around dogs so I know a lot about dogs. I have a 100% full blooded male Australian shepherd an he doesn't any thing like yours. go to google search and type in Australian shepherd and they should take you to alot of dog kennels the at own Australian shepherds, and compare your dog to them.

He's adorable---but you're right he doesn't look like a purebred aussie.

I would lean toward some corgi or GSD in there. The shape of the face and ears are def. not aussie looking. When he gets older you may have a better idea...sometimes you need to wait until a dog is close to full grown to get a better idea.

Enjoy him!

Looks like maybe an Aussie/German Shepherd mix. He's a cutie!

I think he looks like an aussie. He may just be the runt of the litter. The ears sort of tip me off too. I guess every aussie is different. But, if you like him then you should keep him. The breed may be a smidge off, but ohh well. You never know, the guy probably ripped you off.

Well you can definantly tell that he has sheppard in him because of his ears. My parents have a full blooded german sheppard and the ears are exactly like that. But omg he is soooo adorable.

He looks to be pure but, there is no way to really know. You could take him to a reputable breeder in another month or so and they should be able to do an exam and tell you if he meets the AKC requirements... That's as close as you will get to knowing for sure.
He is so cute that unless you plan on training him to be a working dog I don't think it should matter if he's pure or not.
Good Luck.
