Well don't leave them outside, bored and destructive first of all. For their potty brakes, put a fence around the AC unit or put the hose inside of a pipe or cage.

Train the dogs to leave it alone. One at a time, walk the dog, on a leash, out to where the hose is. As soon as the dog starts to go towards the hose, get a sharp tug on the leash, release the tension immediately so the tug is a quick snap and release. At the same time, give the command to "leave it". This will take some time, however, once the dog understands the leave it command, this will work for anything you don't want the dog to get.
If the dogs have a tendency to chew, isolating a specific object, like the hose, may help with that one item, but not anything else. And, depending on where you are, some neighborhoods do not allow fencing. And both of your dogs are large, so it would have to be a very large barricade in order to stop them, which will also affect the overall curb appeal of the house as a whole.
Better to train the dogs what they can and cannot chew.

I think the pvc pipe idea was great! Training is a good idea, but it will only take a split second for one of them to bite a hole in it, so I wouldnt use this as a training tool. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! I raise Rotties and I can see where this would look like something fun to play with, mine love water. I'm wondering if the pvc would withstand the power of their jaws, so maybe you can go to a plumbing store and ask for something really strong to keep the hose safe??? Good luck! You could also place a decorative fence there with flowers planted in front of it to conceal the hole. I have no idea what the set up is, but there are lots of creative ways to keep it safe from playful dogs.

This all sounds so familiar! We had the same problem with our 6 collies. Love to pull the hose off and run and play with it! We put a fence up to keep them away from the A/C & hose.
Good luck!!

Oh I like the fence suggestion! Another thought is to fish the existing hose through a large PVC plumbing pipe that they can't get their mouth around.

Why don't you try taking them for some much needed exercise.A tired dog sleeps it does'nt destroy things.
I have german shepherds and I take them to the park every morning before work for at least a 40 minute run. It's still dark when we get there so I play with them using a laser light until it gets light enough to see well then I walk them around the field to cool them down before taking them home where they happily lay down and nap until noon.I get home at 5p.m. and we have a brisk play session outside for at least half an hour and again before bedtime. When I'm not working the boys go for a 3 mile walk at the park and have several play sessions during the day. They have plenty of toys and treat balls to occupy their time while I'm away.

Build a cage around the A/C unit / hose so the dogs can't get to it.
