well, the previous answers have well established that dogs do see different shades of white and black, so it is possible for them to distinguish 'colors'. However, let me tackle this from a different point of view.... Don't you think it's possible that it's just a coincidence that all those vehicles happened to be the same color, or to paraphrase, that whenever you happen to see him chasing colors they happen to be of a particular color, or that that color is just a very common color for cars? Think along those lines

dogs dont see in only black and white, they see shades of some colors, but there world isnt as bright as ours.
This could be very harmful for the dog if she chaces cars, my first dog i ever had when i was a child had a fetish for wheels. and he was struck by an 18 wheeler. beware plz!

Maybe it is the same color I like and your dog is trying to tell you something. Animals are sensitive to matters of the heart,,, smile.
Besides, whatever color your dog does see, it likes it and will chase it.

They can see in colour, it's just that yellow, red and orange all appear as yellow to a dog. But blue is blue and green is green to a dog. Apparently, if you want to make something really stand out to a dog, then purple and white is a good contrast for them.

I always wonder that too, because the colors red, orange and yellow cause my dog to go nuts and bark, so is he really color-blind???

Dogs do see color it's just their colors are muted. It's similar to what we see at dusk. Colors just not as bright.

DOGS DO SEE IN COLOR!!! They just are unable to distinguish between very subtle shade differences.......i.e. most reds just look red, not light red, dark red, blue red, etc.
