My dog is a Pomeranian boy. He's been getting my stuffed animals and putting his mouth on it and sucking. It's the weirdest thing, but it's so cute. My family and I call it his "baby". He was taken away from his mom and sister pretty early, so maybe it has to do with that? Maybe he think it's her? haha, I don't know. Please give me any ideas!

That is totally the reason. He was taken away from mom too early. Watch the dog whisperer on National Geographic. He will show you the correct way to stop this behavior. It's is not good (I know it is very cute), but they can get string and fuzz and stuff balled up in their stomach and possibly die. You really need to break this habit no matter how cute it is. I have a pom as well, enjoy him, they are great little dogs. Very, very funny with great personalities.

When I got my Shih-poo the lady I bought her from told me to get a black stuffed animal for my puppy.

The reason is because it is comforting for a puppy being seperated from the litter. They look at is as their momma. They can curl up next to it to sleep, etc.

My Shih-poo loved her black doggie and would suck on it all the time. Infact after a year or two I had to throw it away. And yes she was still sucking on it from time to time. She would do the little paw rub too while she was sucking. It comforted her.

My pit bull is 6 and he does the same thing with his "blankie", he will lay on the floor and ball it up betwen his fronts paws and pat it while he is sucking on it. He too was taken away from his mother at 2 weeks old.....it looks like he is nursing, but it is so sweet looking, I don't mind!
