I have a male lab that is a year and 5 months old. He is the most playfull dog in the world! when he was younger i house broke him and he is VERY good about not going to the bathroom in the house, and will go to the door. He does not hump things either. lately I have been thinking about getting him "chopped" but i dont want him to act differently. The only problem i have with him is he jumps up on people when walking in the door (which im working on) and if he gets loose outside he does not come to me (which im also working on) what affects will having him neutered have on him?

I dropped my yorkie puppy [7 months old] on its head yesterday and it made a loud noise. He started crying a lot...but he seems to be fine so far. What are the serious risks of having dropped a puppy?

Why would someone want to keep their dog outside in a crate 24 hours a day and never play with it?? That is animal cruelty. This is what my neighbors are doing.....why wouldn't you surrender the dog or sell it to someone who will take care of it. I don't understand people. It seems to happen a lot here it ghetto Baltimore City.

We have a beautiful loving 2 year old enlgish bulldog named Missy.
Unfortunately we travel a lot for business and we're finding she spends at least a day a week if not more home alone with a neighbor stopping by to feed and play for short periods of time.
I know english bulldogs are hard to find and very expensive but I want to make sure she goes to a good home. She does not like other dogs at all but is a total love with people.
I've never been in a situation where I have a dog that's worth a couple grand and are hard to find in the portland area so I don't know if I should just go word of mouth and make sure it's through someone I know or use craigslist or the paper? My worst fear would be selling her to someone I don't know and not knowing if she's being taken care of. Anybody been through this?

I suspect it's either stress that our puppy is putting on him (she torments him non-stop. She bites his ears, pulls his tail, steals his toys, and chases him around the house.) or my grandmother is still feeding him people food even though she said that she stopped. Normally for dinner we cook him up some rice, peas, boiled chicken, turkey or beef, and he nibbles on dog food throughout the course of the day. Vomiting bile is also a trait of shih tzus.

Even though we know all of these things, my grandmother is still very worried about him. I think if she just stops feeding him greasy people food, we won't have any problem.

Oh well. Any other opinions?

I've got a black lab mix who has had problem after problem after problem. I took her from my friend's aunt to was starving the Hell outta her and she paid no attention to her. She got her as a puppy for her 4 year old daughter, then decided she didn't want her anymore b/c she grew up and is too hyper. -_- She was gonna take her to the pound. Well, first Nighque (Ny-coo) came down with hot spots. So I treated her for that. They healed up nicely, but then shortly after, she got ear infections in both ears. So, it took a month or two, but I healed that up too. Her ears looked great after..... But now, she's got this... skin thing. I brought her to the vet and he did a skin scrape. No mange. He said it could be fleas, a fungal infection, etc. I was thinking it may be allergies. I got her last August or September. Could it be seasonal allergies? Anyway, the vet gave us 3 pills, for her to take 2 a day for 20 days. Well, it's been a week, and things aren't clearing up.

My dog literally follows me around the kitchen and around the dining room whenever I am cooking or setting the table. When I sit down to eat, he sits right next to me and as soon as I get up, he follows. I always feed him right before we eat, but I guess he's checking to see if we will give him something better before he gives in to his own food. We hardly ever give him table scraps, so it's not like he expects it. He drives me nuts when he follows me around like that. I'm surprised I haven't tripped over him yet. Do all dogs do this? If yours doesn't, let me know your secret so I can get mine to stop!

I want to know why all of the owners of pit bulls and other know aggressive breeds feel they need to change every one's veiws on the fact that they are breed to attack and kill other dogs and small animals.Hence the ability and desire to attack children. ANd I am not saying ONLY and ALL pits do this. ALL DOGS BITE> Just most are easier to dislodge from the person or animal being attacked.

My wife and I are going to look at a basenji - chihuahua mix puppy at the shelter tonight. She is nine months old and about 15 lbs. I've been reading a lot about both breeds and have had some hesitations about the basenji. This will be our first dog together. Being that she chihuahua in her, which I've read to be a more calm type of dog, and basenji, which seems to be pretty hyper and stubbourn, is there any way I can tell from our 30 minutes together how she will end up? What should I be looking for with the dog tonight that might help me predict the future as she grows up? My wife and I are more into the cuddley lap type of dog like the chihuahua, but I like that this dog is going to be a little bigger than 5-7lbs.

When dog breeds mix, do both traits come through mixed or do they tend to take some from both?

Dog is walked regularly, loved and well cared for, has lots of toys and bones. Gets tons of attention and treats when he's good.

Problem is: When dog spends time outside by himself (15 minutes to a half hour) on his leash (even though he had bones and toys around him) he still gets tangled up really bad. Several times I and my husband have had to help him untangle himself. The other day the dog got the leash wrapped around his neck. This worries me.

My questions are: Is this a stage the dog is going through? Do we need to consider buying a run/large kennel for dog? What is the most humane thing to do?

We love our dog and don't want to see him injured by the leash. My husband knows a lot of people that have dogs but their dog is fine on the leash and they don't consider kennels as an option. I'm trying to figure out what is the BEST for the dog.

Thank you.

Alright, I even hate asking this, or thinking about it, but I have a dog nearing her time here with me & I know there is nothing more I can do for her,or any vet for that matter. It is just breaking my heart. As I sit here I am about in tears. I have only had to do this one other time, but he was my daughter's dog.Kind of like my own though since they lived in my home & I provided for him. This may sound like a stupid question, but can you tell me how can I lessen the pain I have to endure when I decide to take that last trip to the vet with her? Of course I will stay by her side through the proceedure no matter how bad it will break my heart. Thank you all so much for any answers.
