Ultimately, it comes down to this: does a dog have a soul? No soul. No heaven. If you do not believe in the soul, then dogs can't go to heaven. If you have a very strict and traditional view of Christianity... then no, they cannot go to heaven, because only people have souls. If you do believe that a dog has a soul, though, and I do, despite being a Christian, then it is a distinct possibility. I won't say as a fact that they go to heaven, because heck if I know, but why not?

Of course they do - even if you are not a religious person there is a Heaven - like place they go after crossing the Rainbow Bridge. Check out the poem

I firmly believe that dogs have a soul...and they do go to a better place. How could they NOT go after all the things they do for people? They teach us unconditional love and patience.They teach responsibility. They make us feel safe and secure. If one owns a dog one shall never be lonely. They teach us how to be unselfish and let them go when they are tired and old.
Owned dogs just want their people to be happy and shelter dogs would love to have the chance to make a family happy.
