The proper spelling is Shih Tzu..Take your dog to the vet and up date all his shots. They will tell you what all he needs.

Why can't dog owners lean to spell what kind of dog they do have. It is like your own name for God sakes.

We found a beautiful red Irish Setter last year. Someone just dumped him down our road. Well of course the kids and I had to have him so we took him to the vet for shots check up, etc. The vet gave him vaccines as if he was a puppy. He of course had heartworms, lyme disease not to mention his fur was matted and he has turned out to be a wonderful companion to our family. We named him Rusty and he has had the heartworm treatment and lyme disease has been treated with anitbiotics. He is doing great. It was a rough road but he has made out just fine but heartworms are horrible and the treatment is even worse. When you decide on a vet if you haven't already you should take him in and have heartworm tests, lyme disease tests and any other the vet reccommends and the vet will give him shots as if he has not had any (just in case you don't have recent shot records) You will also need to use some flea preventative because fleas can cause tapeworms. They will also deworm him which is always a good idea if you don't know what has been done. That way if you have other pets at home he can't pass them on to them. The vet should just vaccinate him as if he has not had any vaccines. They won't hurt him. He is old enough for rabies now as well. Also ask the vet about puppy needing pain meds for the vaccines because we also have a dachsund and she is 6 lbs now and little dogs have more discomfort with injection sites than bigger dogs do. Just ask because it is sad to see them in pain. Good Luck!

Your going to need the heartworm, and distemper. If you go to your local community center they can give you information on an innaculation clinic that comes every year, and you can get the basic package that comes with the heartworm and distemper. This only costs 20-30 dollars but they will need these shots every year.
When you go to the innaculation clinic they will always will give you any information you need to know.

Neutering, Heartworm test, DA2PLCPV, Rabies, Bordetella, Fecal, And a heartworm check. Heartgard is given each month.

If he hasnt had his 7week old shots you need to get Parvo, Coronvirus, Distemper, Hepatitis (CAV-1), Parainfluzena, Bordetella, Leptospirosis, and Lyme Disease.

You need to check with the vet for that is just what normal puppies get whenever they reach 6 months of age and 7 weeks of age.

New dog - over 6 months? No shot record.

He needs all of them - Distemper, Hepatitis, Tetanus, Leptosporosis, (DHTL) plus Rabies and Parvo and whatever your local vet deems necessary.

Needs Heartworm preventative, too.

Needs spay and neutering

Needs obedience training

Needs lots and lots and lots of cuddles and lovies.

It would never hurt to redo the shots just tell the vet when and where you got the dog and there is no papers on any thing they will give him or her new shots not to worry

You need to take your pup to the vet and let the vet know that you dont have any shot records on your pup and you dont know what shots he has gotten or has not gotten. Your vet will let you know what needs to be done.
