I never had a female dog before so when I saw her in a pet shop I thought I would rescue her from her horrible conditions. Then a few weeks later I rescued a stray that was emaciated and scarred. He had scratches all over him. I thought he would die. I had no idea such a small dog could impregnate a large dog. It was a foolish mistake and now she is pregnant. I didn't know they had periods either, totaly disgusting. I didn't want to get her spaded until after she was one year old (this month) because I think it takes away there puppiness. I know they say it doesn't effect there character but it does. Well, now shes pregnant and I'm contributing to the pet over population. I'm sorry, but what can I do now? Dog abortion? What should I do with the puppies? I feel bad because I thought I was a responsible dog owner. Any ideas?

She is less than a year old, and I just got her spayed. She has become even more excitable since that. She tears up paper anything all over the house when I am asleep or gone.
I have gotten her a kennel which I think has finally gotten her to stop pottying all over the house now, and she will go into it readily for a dog cookie sometimes without I will just find her in there.
She will bring me her toys, and distribute them throughout the house. But will still tear up books, papers , cards etc. inside and outdoors digs holes all over the yard. How can I help her to stop both of these activities?

Which would be a better dog for family with kids? An American Bulldog or Pitbull? Which is more family oriented? Which would make a better apartment dog? And which is more trainable?

Hi Have a quick question for you all? My dog on thursday the 17 of May, Appered to have a very small sctatch in her nose next to her nasil opening. I washed it and put some triple anit. onintment on it to make shure it would heal properly. I have been cleaning it twice a day and reapplying the T,A,O, but today I nodiced that it was getting crusty and the nasil passage is also inflamed silghtly. This makes me a bit worried. I was wondering if this has happend to any one else and if so what it may be. I have contacted the vet they said that it was not life threatining so I did not have to bring the dog in for an emergency visit. The scrach is still very small about an 1/8" on a German Shepherd.

Hi beagle lovers/owners. I just bought my beagle when he was 5 months old, he is currently 6 months old. I was thinking of buying another dog (female, so there won't be as much 'dominant' tension) so my beagle can have a friend @ apt. ANy suggestions? What other breed get along w/ beagles?

Hello,
I think my 1 yr old rottweiler is very smart and I have been teaching him to identify animals. He knows the word puppy, kitty, piggy and horsey. I did not see any harm in this when I say the animals name he will look for it and wag his tail and just watch it walk by or watch it on Television. Unless if I say " go play with the puppy" then he will run up to the dog. A dog trainer saw me point out a kitty to my pup and said how dangerous it is to draw attention to an animal walking by. She said that it would make him get exicted and possibly attack.

Does anyone have any reasons on why this could be bad to teach a dog? Has anyone done the same?
I am just curious of people's opnions, thanks!

Me and my BF are going to be getting two puppies when we move into our house near the end of July and need to think of some cool names for our new pups.

We definately want to name the pair after a double act

ie: Laurel & Hardy .... Salt and Pepper...

this sort of thing...... All suggestions welcome. :)

Thanks Peeps! ^_^

First, let me say I am totally NOT in favor of these "designer dogs" but my neighbor has a dog that's part Yorkie and I can't remember what the other part is.. I swear her owner said Chow but I know there's NO WAY that's possible as the thing is just tiny, maybe 5 or 6 lbs.

So what do these "designer breeders" mix Yorkies with? I already know they mix them with Poodles.. what else?

Recently a list was on yahoo showing the top puppies, alot of people were angry that their dog was not included, including my dog a dachshund. Tell me about your dog and why he/she should have been included. I would put mixed breeds at the top, because they don't get much attention.

Dogs[expect vicious ones] are cute and funny and they give you alot of unconditional love and affection,so why is it that Maltese dogs are a lot more expensive than BlueHeeler dogs, or why are Yorkies or Shihtzus generally speaking more expensive then Rat Terriers or Beagles? Aren't all these dog's,pretty much the same regardless of their breed?

In this book I was reading it said that it takes roughly 7 MONTHS to house train a puppy not to do its mess inside. Is this just a rough answer, as of course all puppies learn at different speeds, or is this really how long it takes? How long did it take you to housebreak your pup?

my jack russell doesnt seem to be bounding as much as he used to. i dont know if this is because he's growing up now and maturing or if he's sick. he's up to date with all his shot, he's wormed and i've put his coat on to keep him worm. he's lost a little bit of fur around his left eye and there are some red spots/lump that look like dried up blood. it has been like this for a long time and he is not losing anymore fur. what could be going on? when i take him outside, he's fine again. he's sleeping right now

I want a dog that will scare intruders away, but one that I won't be afraid of myself. I am not a pet person at all and am afraid of dogs when they approach me, but I am getting desperate in protecting myself since there's been a lot of crime done to the exterior of my home.
