Hi Have a quick question for you all? My dog on thursday the 17 of May, Appered to have a very small sctatch in her nose next to her nasil opening. I washed it and put some triple anit. onintment on it to make shure it would heal properly. I have been cleaning it twice a day and reapplying the T,A,O, but today I nodiced that it was getting crusty and the nasil passage is also inflamed silghtly. This makes me a bit worried. I was wondering if this has happend to any one else and if so what it may be. I have contacted the vet they said that it was not life threatining so I did not have to bring the dog in for an emergency visit. The scrach is still very small about an 1/8" on a German Shepherd.

You're doing the right thin going to the vet, this cut does sound infected so the problem is only going to get worse. You need to take him to the vet BEFORE the cut starts to obviously bother the dog, not after! If you do that you'll just have made it harder for the dog, and more expensive for yourself.

The person who said vets can't removed foreign objects from a dog's nose is a twerp. Foreign objects can be flushed out of noses.

I'd guess it was a bite of some kind.. snake maybe?.. I could be wrong, but the few infected cuts my dogs have had caused fevers and major swelling.. (for the record the cuts where made by the groomers and they didn't tell us about them).. If the cut doesn't get better in a few days (or the dog starts acting or smelling strange) take him in. Just try to keep it clean..

YOur dog may have fox tail in it's nose.Is she sneezzing a lot? The vet's can't do muck about that.the best thing you can do is to hope it smothes out and stops annoying her or him. if not take it to the vet
