Well a cuple months ago i got a baby pit bull puppy. She is now about 4 months. I love her to death, however i am not able to see her everyday like i want. She is also not poty trained yet. And i am not able to work with her on that. She is staying with my father, and with his work schedule he is not able to be with her. She is recently staying out side, tied to a pole(WHICH I HATE). I think she needs more attention. An I think she is not that happy, even though she loves seeing me. PLEASE tell me what i should do in a sitchation like this?

We currently have a 10 year old westie and my husband and I both work during the week. We leave her home alone, and she seems to do fine. We love the breed and are thinking about getting another one. Will another dog make a good companion for her during the day, or not necessarily? Everyone I know who's got two dogs says it better than having just one.

education is best to impove on the way we do things. my clients' pets are sufferning. There getting arthrist early, there diets are the reasoning behind it. We don't sell dog food, so i can't say hey buy this or that.

Someone suggested charts on things, but with 12 hour days i don't find time for them, manufactures send out dental charts on dental deseases.

What can I do in my profession to help my clients help there pets?

I'm lost here and over come with frustration on over-weight pets, neglected and other situations. Any ideas i can do more then just at the office to change things on a greater scale?

I have two pugs, 7 and 11. They went from being completly housetrained to urinating everywhere. We never see them do it and usually there is always someone home. They go out to go potty serval times a day. There is no need for them to do this in the house. Now we have a baby thats begining to crawl and don't want him on the floor due to this issue. My Question is, is it humane, with proper shelter, to keep them outdoors a majority of the day? It should be known that I live in CA where it could get quite warm outside. Please Help!!!

He is a 10-year old Yorkshire Terrier who we got from a dog's home a year ago. He is so lovely and perfect in every way, except he gets so excited when anybody comes in our house, he starts screaming and jumping up and then starts coughing because he's so excited. This happens when I come home or when we have visitors, so it's a little embarassing when he pulls at their clothes and screams. How can I train him to calm down a little and not get so worked up? Serious answers only please!

I've been finding soft lumps occasionally on my 7-year-old golden retriever. Hunter seems completely healthy otherwise. Is there a rule of thumb any of you follow for knowing when to have lumps examined by a vet?

My chihuahua is the pickiest dog ive ever known. She doesn't eat her dog food - the good kind like canned dinners with vegetables and gravy and everything! She just smells it and walks away and the food will stay there for days. My mom gives her human food and thats what shes been living on is people food for the past year. Sometimes she wont even eat real delicious chicken! I pretty much have to beg her to eat!! She does like food its just that she wont eat the same thing day after day. She seems very healthy to me but I wish she would eat what shes supposed to. What can I do?

Today, on Answers, I noticed a question from someone who wanted to breed their dog. Most people who responded
attacked the person, rather than answering the question asked.
The tone of most responses was that if the person did not have a fancy registered "perfect" animal fitting breed standard. Then, they shouldn't breed at all.
Many people pointed out the number of puppies needing adoption at shelters. What these people probably don't realise is adoption isn't for everyone. Many shelters have rules so strict that a lot of people can't adopt that would normally give the puppies wonderful homes. For example, large adoption fees, requiring use of certain vet (usually most expensive in town), requiring regular visits to their groomer (is most expensive in town, again), requiring that you own not rent,
requiring fenced yard, requiring children to be a certain age
and attend classes in animal care, etc. Breeders of AKC
animals have even stricter standards.

My Cocker Spaniel of about 5 years has been having trouble standing up and sometimes walking. What's Happening? Old age? Should I contact a vet?
Sorry I don't know exactly how this works.

People are making me snap at work.

They wonder why their pets are fat, unhappy and over weight. I ask if they walk there dog, and know the person themself is overweight.

Why do people do things to themself as they do to their pets?
The people who do this will help their own health and the dogs too and treats. I'm tired of these poor animals that keep being feed treats that are 500-700 calories treats and if the dog is 20lbs imagine what more then 1 a day does. Depending on the dog the calories differ, just like us. What can I honestly do here when people don't count treats as part of the diet.

My dog (large boxer male) ate a 1kg bar of galaxy chocolate off my kitchen top whilst I was out a couple of days ago. I have kept my eye on him over the last 48 hrs and he just seems to have an extremely grumbly tummy which is gurgling quite frequently. Could anyone tell me if this is serious or if I need to rush him to the vets. Thank you.

My chihuahua is not able to come up on my bed by herself so I am always having to pick her up to put her on my bed. So I decided to get pet stairs for her. But she is not taking to them right away, so I am trying to train her to use them. First I put a treat on the top step, but all she has to do is put one paw on the stairs to get to it. So then I put a treat on the bed, but she just trys to get to it without using the stairs. So then I physically put her on the stairs, but when I do this she kind of freezes up. I use a lot of good girls and good doggies and am always upbeat and happy when I do this with her. I've only done this twice, once yesterday and once today, since I don't want to scare her. Does anyone have any experience with this same scenario? Should I keep doing what I'm doing until she learns how to use them? She is a very good dog and listens to me, she comes when she's called etc.
