Yes, ham bones or any ham can actually be really bad for your dog. Some dogs have a bad reaction to ham that causes vomiting and lethargy. Also it has a lot of salt. More than a dog needs. Even some of the treats on the market contain way to much salt(sodium). Really a dog shouldn't have any bones from cooked meat. Cooking causes the bones to become softened. Whatever sized piece the dog swallows is what goes through the dogs intestinal track. Can cut them and cause bleeding and even death. Try getting a bone from your butcher, a big knuckle, or soup bone. These usually don't splinter off and are really hard.

Unfortunately, I found out the hard way. My dog is ok now, THANK GOD. I thought only chicken/turkey bones were bad. Cooked ham bones are not ok, as my vet informed me. Raw are ok (however most hams have already been cooked and just need to be heated.) . But, he was throwing up all day. The bones can get lodged and tear the intestines, etc.

Bob Milligan of Nature’s Variety says the secret to safer bones lies in the selection. “We try to select bones like the ham bone, which is the main femur bone of the pig,” he explains. “That is a medium hardness bone, either in the raw or roasted state. We found that the slow roasting helps soften that bone so splintering has not been a problem. We sell literally hundreds of thousands of those bones and have not had problems. I should add we always caution the pet caregiver to supervise the pet with bones, whether the bones are raw or slow-roasted.”

If you really want to give a nice bone to your dog, go to the butcher and get a great big beef bone (they have huge ones)
I would boil it first, then give it to them. They will chew on one of those thigh bones for a long time. They don't splinter as smaller bones do.

If you can find a raw one then you can give them that. Most hams in grocery stores are precooked so no dont give your dog that bone.
Go to your local butches and get some good sized bones from him. Ham is really not good for dogs.

in no way supply a canines a cooked bone. uncooked bones are advantageous, and extremely uncooked rooster necks are sturdy for tooth cleansing. yet ham is processed by utilising cooking so in no way ever supply a canines a ham bone. they might splinter and reason extreme harm.

I had a very bad experience with a ham bone and my Rotty boy. He was very sick and had to go to the Vet. I will never do it again.
