I don't remember where I heard that from, but I've been considering getting my dog fixed and I was just wondering if that is true.

He's almost two years old. Is that too old?

Excellent Pet Owner. A++++++.

Neutering can lower an animals metabolism but it is usually the lack of exercise and overfeeding that causes the animal to become overweight.
Surgery is performed under anesthesia and animals are usually back on their feet into normal activities within 24 to 72 hours. This slight discomfort is not harmful and prevents the suffering and death of hundreds of unwanted animals that could be born if you do not spay or neuter your pet.

I have heard that my whole life. I don't think it's really completely true. I have two cats(one boy and one girl), and they have BOTH been fixed. The girl is fat, but the boy is very thin and active. The girl cat is just real lazy (she even lays down on the floor to eat, lol). But the boy cat is active, he jumps around, plays and romps through the house.

I think it's all about activity and food.

Feed your dog a good healthy diet and take him for walks and will not get fat.

Cheers

No,

It depends on WHEN you get them fixed.
If you wait until around 6 months, he should be fine with regular exercise.

It's when animals are fixed at young ages like 6-8 weeks that weight, as well as hormones, can become an issue. For both males and females.

No, it'd not true. I've had every dog I've ever owned fixed, and not one of them ever got fat. It's an Old Wives' Tale.

If you are not a responsible breeder, then I would highly recommend you get your dog neutered. He will not get fat unless he gets no exercise and eats too much. However, he will be much healthier if he is neutered, no risk of tescular cancer. Check the internet for benefits of neutering your pooch.

No its no its not true at all. Dogs get fat from the same reason that people do.....being misfed. Get the dog fixed or your going to be asking for alot more then you bargained for.

Getting fixed has little to nothing to do with it. Depends on how much food and exercise he gets.

For some animals - i.e. bulls vs steers, they pack on the weight.

No. if you stop exercising him and start feeding him junk, he will get fat. Getting him fixed will make him a calmer, happier, healthier dog. Go ahead and get him neutered.

You might have to regulate the feeding of your pet. My dog is a grazer and he has not gotten fat. It's been about 9 months since we did that to him (he he).

Not necessarily if you watch his diet , don't overfeed him and make sure he gets enough exercise. Once dogs are fixed they don't stray looking for bitches in heat, therefore they need to be exercised is all.
