I've been finding soft lumps occasionally on my 7-year-old golden retriever. Hunter seems completely healthy otherwise. Is there a rule of thumb any of you follow for knowing when to have lumps examined by a vet?

Thanks for the advice. I checked Hunter again today and the lumps have apparently disappeared. He's due for his vet checkup, and I will definitely explain the situation to the doctor.

some times this lumps are benign, it can be lipoma which is fatty tumor. it is better to go to visit your vet and let him or her perform needle biopsy or excisional biopsy and from here they will know if it is benign or malignant cancer

I had an English Bulldog a few years back who developed some little red spots, sort of like dog-chicken pox. The vet was pretty insistent that they were quite serious unless something was done to fight them right away. I would get your dog into the Vet's office ASAP.

As previously stated, better to be safe than sorry..

Good luck

Ok, so everyone else has told you about Cancer and Skin Issues etc. which are likely, but what it could also be are fat lumps. I've known 3 different dogs that just got a little fat deposit on there chest or leg, etc.

So definately take him to the vet, but don't call him dead yet, it could just be fat.

as lumps go i think you should get it checked out just to be on the safe side.there is so much cancer going around to people and pets and it;s hard to cure when it;s been around for awhile 'so on the safe side bring your beautiful dog to get checked at the vets for the lumps ....good luck to you and hunter,

As soon as you realized your dog had these lumps you should have got the dog checked out. Some lumps can be serious.
