We have been told that this is common in German Shepherd Dogs as they get older. She has also started dirtying randomly all around the house, which she has never did before as we have a large garden where she is free to rome as she pleases. Any suggestions would be greatfully received. Thanx

Question 1: My female dog approx. 4 years of age, is going the 28th to get fixed, I am wondering, Is there anything I can do to prepare her for going away for three days and for the surgery? I know she's not a person but is there anything I can do to prepare her?

Question 2: My 6 months old male mix keeps making himself sick by eating dog waste, with it being rainy and snowing without notice I can't always clean up every time he goes to the restroom, how do I get him to stop, I've tried saying a firm "NO" and that he is being bad, but he still does it, he eats when he is supposed to and he is not underweight, why is he doing this and how can I stop it??

What can I do? the smell is more than the normal "dirty dog" smell. I just had her groomed and her anal glands expressed and now less than a week later, I'm waking up to a smelly living room. HELLP!!

My dog will not let her nails get cut. I took her to the groomers and the lady said she could not cut my dog's nails. The lady at the groomers told me to take her to an animal hospital and they will cut them there so I took my dog there today and they told me they could not cut my dog's nails. It is a big problem because my dog gets very nervous when someone tries to cut her nails and she just doesn't let anyone touch her nails. What should I do?

He is usually a hyper dog. However, today and last night he hasnt wanted to move and if he does it is very slowly (totally outta characteristic) When my wwife went to pet him to move him he snapped at her. HE never done that before. HE has his rabies vax. Could it be a pulled muscle from going on a long walk yesterday or maybe heartworm. I heard it gives him loss of energy I just dont know. My plan is to go to the vet but i am working 10 hour days this week and cant go til saturday. WHAT SHOULD I DO? OR WHAT IS WRONG?

I want a hairless and fairly small dog, that is calm and reserved, but loyal and loving too. Appearance does not matter, I just want a dog for company - a dog that I can put on my lap and watch T.V. with, for example. I have searched for some dog breeds, like the Xolo (hairless mexican dog), but they are not available in the UK

please suggest other dog breeds with a similar temperament and attitude, as well as the same qualities (small, hairless and calm) - i need a small dog due to housing size.

Anyone suggest other

The Pomeranian we adopted yesterday, in addition to marking everything in the shelter and outside and trying to mark in the house, also nipped at our son. My husband became really upset about this and wanted to return the dog. The dog was in his bed trying to go to sleep. My son went to him and was petting him gently and talking to him. The dog did not snap until my son attempted to get in the bed with him. My reaction was to tell the dog, "No Biting" and reitterate to my son that he does not bother the dog when he's resting or eating. My son stopped crying very quickly and seemed to understand what I had told him. Is the nipping something to be concerned about to the extent that we should take the dog back, or take the dog to obedience school, or will educating my son and firmly reprimanding the dog take care of it?

We adopted a Pomeranian yesterday from the animal shelter. When we brought him out to the visitation room to get acquainted with the family, he quickly went around the room and marked everything in sight. When my husband and I firmly told him no, he stopped. The lady at the shelter told us that this would only make the problem worse. When we took him outside on his leash, he started doing it again on every item he found. Again, we firmly told him no and he stopped. When he got into our fenced-in backyard, we let him do it wherever he wanted. When we first brought him in the house, he tried to do it twice but we firmly told him no and he stopped again. Then we didn't see the behavior the rest of the night. Is this something to be concerned about? Should we discourage him from marking in our backyard and when we take him on walks. He was just neutered two days ago. Will this get better the longer he's neutered?

Hi everyone..I'm looking to adopt my first dog. I don't know what breed of dog is best suited for my lifestyle. I live by myself in my home (with gated backyard) and work full-time. I would like a small dog (1-3 years old) that is easy to house-train, doesn't shed too much and doesn't make a lot of noise. Since there is nobody at home while I am at work, I need a dog that doesn't require constant attention. I've been trying to research dog breeds (such as the lhasa apso and shih tzu)...what do you all think? thank you very much!

I keep reading about all these dog and cat foods being recalled. Now they are more of them poping out of the wood work. So how do you know which is safe and which is not safe. I have been doing alot of research on dog food, and have found some interesting things out. Did you know pedigree has an ingredent in it that may cause cancer in dogs it is called bha/bht. I have been feeding my dog this brand for over a year and he just passed away, I also know of a few other people whos dog has died while eating this brand. So my question I guess is Now what?

My local shelter had a dog my family wanted to adopt. It was a 4 year old neutered male Husky mix. He was good with other dogs, cats, and young children. His only problem was that he
had epilepsy. The shelter advertised him on our local cable station. We went down and filled out all the paperwork to
adopt him. We were denied. The only reason given was that our income wasn't over $75,000 a year, which is what the shelter requires of all adopters. No one else applied to adopt the dog and he was put to sleep 10 days later.
Most shelters around here have that requirement, some even insist on more income at least 6 figures.
We live in an are where good jobs are few and far between. My husband is lucky to have one. We are buying our home.
Our mortgage is current. We have a 4 bedroom on 1 acre.
Invisible fenced yard. 2 well behaved toddlers. Other dogs.
Superior vet references. But, a shelter would rather kill a dog than let us adopt it. Please explain this to me ?
