He is in pain definitely go to vet find out whats wrong get pain killer. Crate him to prevent bites and more injury until you get to a vet or go to an emergency vet at night more expensive but worth it.

Even the most trusting and loving of dogs may snap when in severe pain. Before my dog passed away last year, he would sometimes snap (but never even coming close to me - more like snapping at air). However, the poor guy had severe arthritis, was in renal failure, and had bad vision and hearing. Little wonder to see him snap when I'm dragging him to go outside and relieve himself (when I'm sure all he wanted to do was sleep). In my case, all this was old age related (I'm not even sure if he was fully aware of everything those last few weeks). But unless your dog is also very old, this sounds different.
My advice is to take him to the vet. If he doesn't snap at you, he may view you as more alpha than your wife. Alternatively, perhaps you just haven't touched the sensitive spot yet. See if you can get him to the vet ASAP. Sometimes dogs suffer acute arthritis that comes on suddenly. Often a little pain medication may be all that he needs. But also ask your vet to do some blood work, especially if he is an older dog.
Good luck!

First off, get your dog to the vet ASAP. Call in sick, the dog is more important (or should be). Half a day off won't kill you.
How old is your dog? a young dog cannot be vigorously exercised until the age of AT LEAST 1 year. He may be Dysplastic, or just sore. He may have a loose hip that was aggravated by a long walk. there are many things that could be contributing to his condition. I would take the dog in to the vet really soon. If the dog is dyplastic, time is of the essence. They can further aggravate the joint and cause more damage.

My Golden growls and snapps when I move his hind quarters (i.e. if he is taking up too much of the bed) and he snapped at my nephew once when he was applying pressure to his back. He is NOT a vicious dog and I know he does it because he has arthritis in his back. I bet your dog is hurt and snapping is his ONLY way to tell you how you are touching him is causing him pain.
I know work is important and it is hard to find the time, but think back to a time when you were hurt (ever broke a bone etc?) and then imagine the only way to get help to relieve that pain is by depending on another person, and then that person made you wait for three full days? You dog is your responsibility. He depends on you, and it is up to you to do whatever it takes to get him help. Not in three days. You obviously care about your dog or you never would have posted the question, please don't let him suffer!

Sounds like arthritis. My home veterinary book says that it is OK to give your dog Tylenol. You can find the correct dose for his weight in a book or on the Web. Please only use this as a stop-gap until such time that you can get your dog to the vet, just to help him a bit with the pain until then. I would err on the side of underdosing him, especially if this is the first time you have given him medication. You will be amazed at how just a small amount of Tylenol will help him loads!

Have your wife take him there could be something wrong with is hip as for him snapping at her he is most likely in pain and doesnt want to move around. If you cant make it in at least call your vet and see what the recomend until you can make it in. Some vets will even make house calls for a price.

I would say something may be wrong with the dogs hip. Only a vet can tell you for sure. Take your pet to your vet they will check it out and x-ray the hip if need be. Heart worms aren't in it's hip by the way.

I'd take the dog to the vet a.s.a.p. He is obviously suffering. When animals are in pain they will snap at or even bite the person they love the most. They are suffering and don't realize that you are trying to help. Good Luck

I would go to the vet it is a sure sign that he is in pain. There is some vets that are open 24 hours you can take him there this will be easier with you and your work. But take him soon.
