Question 1: My female dog approx. 4 years of age, is going the 28th to get fixed, I am wondering, Is there anything I can do to prepare her for going away for three days and for the surgery? I know she's not a person but is there anything I can do to prepare her?
Question 2: My 6 months old male mix keeps making himself sick by eating dog waste, with it being rainy and snowing without notice I can't always clean up every time he goes to the restroom, how do I get him to stop, I've tried saying a firm "NO" and that he is being bad, but he still does it, he eats when he is supposed to and he is not underweight, why is he doing this and how can I stop it??

Hi.
A spay should not require the dog to stay for 3 days. i would re-consider your vet of choice. Call around and see how long most vets keep them for. There isn't a whole lot you can do before the surgery, but post-op care is important. Keeping her calm, keeping her from bothering her stitches, and PROPER pain medication is key. An E-Collar is useful, and your vet may provide one for keeping her from bothering her stitches. If your veterinarian does not provide an EC you can get one at most pet stores. As for keeing her calm, a crate is the best way to go IMO. If the dog is not crate trained yet, you may have time to work on it before the surgery.
As for Stool Eating, most of the time it is a sign that the dog may not be getting the nutrtion it needs. If your dog is eating a low-quality kiible (such as Purina, Iams, Hills, even Eukanuba-not great food. Heaven forbid you feed anything store brand!) I recommend a holsitic, all natural food. i feed my dogs Blue Buffalo dry dog food. I also recommend Innova, Solid Gold, Nutro's Natures Repice, Diamond (Professional, not maintence). These are all good foods that will give proper nutrtion. If you (after research, i hope) don't think it is a dietary problem, it can be resolved with training. Consult a (positive reinforcment) trainer that will guide you as for what to do about the stinky, poop eating puppy.

For the first question theres really not much you can do to prepare your dog for the surgery. They have no idea whats going on and usually nervous going to the vet.
For the second one you dog seems to be lacking in some kind of nutrient that he's trying to get from eating the poo.ask your vet to do a blood workup and maybe he can tell you.

1) Other than making sure the Veterinarian's staff is a truly caring bunch there really isn't much else to do. Do you know them? If Not, pay them an unexpected visit and check out the holding area.
2)Most puppies go after anything that smells edible. Considering their olfactory senses are so great(hundreds of times greater than ours) there is no telling what they smell in the poop. The good news is they will grow out of this disturbing behavior. In the interim, try clearing your yard area with an ol fashion pooper scooper. Wish I had more to offer.

Dogs that eat their waste is usually lacking something in it's diet talk to your vet maybe your dog has a deficiency's of some kind.
3 days for a spaying wow... Here you take your dog into the vet one morning and then pick it up the very next morning 24 hours thats it. I would have freaked if they had kept my girls for 3 days.

Answer 1: There's not really anything to ''prepare''. Consult your vet for rules (usually something along the line of ''no food after 8pm" the night before.).
Answer 2: Eating feces is also known as coprophagia. Feeding the dog MSG, garlic, or pumpkin is believed to give feces a bad taste, making it less attractive to the dog. Other products can be applied to the feces directly; however, dogs are very perceptive and can probably distinguish between tainted and untainted feces.

#1- the best thing is to not make a big deal of it. No food or water 12 hours before surgery. She'll be fine
#2-add pineapple to the dog food. This makes the poo unappetizing.

Well, if you figure out how to keep the dog out of the poop, let me know. I'm still trying to keep mine out of the cat's litter tray. I know there's certain food you can feed your cats to keep dogs out, but I don't really want to feed my cats based on their poop grossing out my dogs, doesn't sound very healthy.
There's nothing really you can do to prepare a dog for spaying, just try to keep her calm.

Though many people will cry and disagree, you give the dog a swift, hard smack on the behind everytime he eats it. It'll stop eventually.
