Where I live dogs are not allowed to run free in most places and if they are allowed off the lead they must be in a controlled area (fenced community dog play area). So yes the woman should have had ALL of the dogs on leads! It's really too bad because its in a dogs nature to run. Each one of us is responsible for our dogs behavior.

dogs should definitely be on a lead! isn't there a law (in Britain) that says they must be? or you get a fine? when i am out walking with my 3 year old i would feel a lot safer if i thought all owners kept there dogs on a lead. selected dog walking areas excepted. sadly few do though. you may think that some dogs are not vicious but you never know when one can turn especially when there are other dogs around. just safer to keep them on a lead or let them off in an area you know is safe.

The one not on a lead is the guilty party or rather it's owner is. I don't have my dog on a lead as I have a collapsed lung it hurts to walk him on a lead as he pulls .He is very well behaved dog but, if he approaches another dog and gets bitten its his own fault. However I do put him on a lead if I thought he would be aggressive with any dogs that may be around I then stand with him until the other owner + dog pass

If I am out with my dog and see another dog on a lead I will put mine on his lead as I wonder why the other dog is not allowed to run around. However I have been told that if you put your dog onto its lead when approaching another dog (or a person) it gives them the signal that there is something to worry about.

Staff or not, your dog has the right to walk on lead without being attacked by other dogs. Hers are obviously not under control.

When out with my dog, if i see someone who has their dogs on a lead i will put mine on the lead and let them pass. If my dog went running up to them, even if their dog bit mine first, i would be in the wrong because their dog was under control and mine wasnt, its not your fault at all.

I think its the people that dont have a leash on there dog.Last summer I went to the beach with my 2 shepards,I went way over to the other side where no one else was and I had them tied up then this guy pulled up in a van and let his dog out his dog charged at my 2 shepards and they grabbed onto him.I flipped at the guy cause theres a sign saying dogs need to be leashed at all times.I went to a different part of the park and here comes this guy with his dog AGAIN.Then he said it was my fault for having vicious dogs then threatened to shoot us and the dogs.my dogs are not vicious but protective to a point this dog came out of no where and tried to bite them.I agree with you.

You were right!! She only said what she said to take focus off the fact she was in the wrong. Most places have leash laws and had the police been involved her dogs would have been the offenders and she would have gotten in trouble regardless of what breed of dog you were walking on a leash.

you have every right to walk your dog in a park (even if it wants to kill every other dog it sees!) you should not have to worry about someones idiot offleash dog running up and starting a fight. you were being responsible, and that woman is lucky your staff wasn't dog aggressive like many are, because if your dog had hurt hers, it wouldn't have been your fault! problem is people always want to blame the pit bulls and staffies. i would have told her, not so nicely, that HER dogs should be on a LEASH. and SHE could use a muzzle.
