My wife brought him home from the shelter last month. He's about 2 years old and already been 'fixed'. He is the most loveable dog I've ever seen. Well, maybe a little too affectionate. I don't care about breed standards and all that. I just want a healthy, happy family friend.

I've asked a few questions about dogs over the last couple of days from kennels outside to choke training collars and it seems like people think I'm being cruel. I want to train my dog properly and have been doing that since I have the luxury of being home during the day. But, I treat the dog like a dog. When he is good, he gets treats and when he is bad, he gets punished. I don't baby talk to the dog. I don't put him in sweaters. I don't like him on the furniture and he doesn't go on our bed. My husband wanted the dog and I'm trying to make the best of it. Our dog does have a good home, but I treat him like a dog. Why do you treat your dog like a little person? I just don't understand that. I have a cat and would say I am more a cat person, but then I treat my cat like a cat. Help me understand your logic.

I have a six month old pitbull labrador mix puppy. Up until yesterday, he was acting fine. All of a sudden, he started getting signs of kennel cough. Is this normal? He hasn't been around too many dogs since I brought him home from the shelter about a week and a half ago. Today, I woke up to give him a walk and feed him, but he wouldn't touch his food or water, it was too cold outside, and he wouldn't do his duties. That's when he started trembling.
All he's been doing for the last two days is sit on the couch and rest. He is doing that as I am writing this. I have even tried giving him his favorite treats but to no avail.

Please, if anybody has any good ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

We recently lost our beloved Pomeranian (2 months). I have gotton a few votes for a Golden Retriever, a cocker, or a Lab. I'm checking shelters locally first. I would prefer a mutt puppy, how do I find one?

I have three dogs. Two we have had for a while. One (female) is about a year and a half and the other (male) is about a year both are fixed. A month ago someone dropped off a six week old puppy in our neighborhood so we took her in and are keeping her because our female treats her like her own pup. The male has snapped at the puppy twice. I know that just snapping at her is just him teaching her boundries as all dogs teach pups but he has bite her twice causing her to bleed in the face. Last night I had to rush her to the ER. She was fine just a small puncture but I can't let this happen again. How can I make him stop biting her. We show him all kinds of affection and give him plenty of alone time. When he is bad we make him lay down and submit. I know that he should not be showing any dominent tendancies because my husband and I are the "alpha dogs" what can I do?

The dog has only been here for approx 24hrs, while he is already showing signs of relaxing he has begun to mark his territory. (Both dogs are neutered) I understand why, however is there something I can do to stop this? I dont want to purchase any solutions or chemicals, if anyone has a recipe for a spray thats homemade or any ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks.

We have had Sharpeis for years but this one is quite different. Lovable for sure but very anxious. She does NOT bite or chew anything in the house, she does NOT do her business in the house...none of our Sharpeis ever did...she is very loving and good...however...whenever we leave the house she cries at the door. I mean really cries tears until we get home. The floor is literally wet from her tears and she did
NOT do her business, it was from crying. Not only does she cry but she chews and gnaws at the door, I mean REALLY chews to the point where we had to replace the wood on the door and molding twice already because she will chew and claw right through to the other side. Finally we replaced the bottom half of the door with Plexiglas and sided the door molding with steel. Another thing she does is when she comes to wake us up, and as soon as I get out of bed, she'll nip at my ankles and nip at my rear-end as I walk.

My sister in law's little Chi, (3 lbs) has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. Her condition has rapidly worsened and her fits are becoming more and more frequent. We have consulted 4 different vets, yet they don't offer much advice. We are just wondering if anyone out there has had any similar experiences, and how they treated them. Any holistic or homeothopic remedies or treatments? Please help us all you pet lovers out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a male and female dog, which had a litter of puppies in Nov. She had an appointment to get speyed and 2 days prior she went into heat. My male dog has been going crazy and I stopped them in the middle of trying to mate, I am not sure she is pregnant or not(hoping not). He is still going crazy and I was hoping it was because she is not impregnated. If they get stuck does that mean she is pregnant.

A friend has covered (with a blanket) her puppy's crate, while he is in it, to curb his barking. It really bothers me. The puppy has become agressive. Has this technique added to his agressive behavior. She says that covering the crate is a thing that is done often.

how soon should he get the shots (at how mant weeks?)? are there things vets try & talk you into that you don't need? I want to get him all he needs to stay healthy but i'm sure some vets "recommend" things that aren't "must haves".

My female is a very picky eater. I have tried several brands of what you would consider a top quality food. She will only eat it for a couple of days and then stops eating completely. She is very stubborn and would actually starve to death over it. The only type of food she will eat is kibbles n chucks which I know is not good for her. She tends to get many ear infection which I know is caused by her food. Are there any brands of food that has close to maybe the same taste but are actually good for her.
