He might require more time. Not all puppies display signs of recognition towards the names you have given them that quickly. My puppy (schnauzer) took about 6 weeks before he comprehended the fact that I was calling him. Have patience, and good luck ;)

Does he respond to anything besides smell or seeing you ?
I'm sure that the pup doesn't just have a dislike for it's name.
So I would do a couple of hearing tests on him. You can do this yourself, make sure he cant see you, a friend could stand in front of him, then say his name. Also, try other noises, and switch who is doing the distracting and who is saying the name, (just in case its the person, the dog is ignoring) this might rule out the possibility of him being hearing impaired. But if you are not sure after doing the test, have a professional do it, (a vet). If your puppy is hearing impaired, you have to decide if you are willing to go the extra mile to take proper care of your pet. It can be a task sometimes, so don't beat yourself up if you are not able to do it. They do need some special attention, you will need to use a little different method to train him, he will need to be in a fenced yard. (a chain is not a good idea, (ever) but especially in your dogs case because something could attack your dog and the poor thing wouldn't even know what hit him. The fenced yard for obvious reasons of being hit by a car or some other mishap. Use special caution with children.
I hope maybe that your puppy just doesn't like its name !
Maybe it's hoping that if it ignores you, you'll try a different name, ha, ha, .
Okay, not funny,
and not likely, good luck.

Sorry, I went on and on. I didn't catch your update. Like most everyone else said, give it time he'll figure it out.

It's possible that the puppy could be deaf. Does he respond to other sounds? If not, I would have him checked by a vet. If he does respond to other sounds, it may , just take him a little more time, to learn his name. Just keep trying, to get him to respond. I hope he's ok! Good Luck!

again not knowing his name can hurt us answering this. I have had many dogs in my life. Best way to name them is with a 2 syllable name and it has to have hard sounds in it. Buddy is a good example. Crisp and clear. fluffy, not so much so. the soft sounds of the constanents are hard for the dog to distinguish. It is okay to have a softer sound in the name, but it needs to have some distinguishing hard sound somewhere. I have two dogs right now, Loki and Kyrie. Neither have any issues. And Loki is 4 months old and we have only had him for a month. Repitition is big also. Use his name when you feed him, or when he is outside and you are near.

How old is the puppy? I can take a long time for a puppy to learn its name. Just try to be consistent and always call him by the same name. Also, try to use his name a lot when you are around him.

Recently acquiring a new puppy too, I also didn't think he was "getting" his name. But, you have to take into consideration that, just like a little baby, they are interested in so many things. Lots to sniff, and discover. The ending of my story is that BUDDY, finally does know his name, especially when he is a bad puppy, which is not too many times. Just remember, your pup is still a little baby! good Luck

You need your dog way more than that. If you make an incredibly good bond with him and call him by his name all the time, than he will edventually come. If that doesn't work, grab one of his favorite toys or treats, than call him. He will soon realize he has to come to you to get the treat. After about 6 months old, you don't have to have a treat, just praise him when he comes.

First, is your puppy deaf? Does he react to sound (not vibrations such as tapping your foot on the floor, but actual noise)?

If his hearing is fine, then be patient and keep using his name in your "friendly higher-pitched happy puppy voice."

Since you do not give what your puppy's name I found this: Easy names with two or fewer syllables work well.

I found a good article called "Simple Puppy Naming Tips" at the link below.

Just keep calling him by his name. Don't use any nicknames or anything like that. He will get is eventually. Some dogs take a little longer to train than others.
