My sister in law's little Chi, (3 lbs) has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. Her condition has rapidly worsened and her fits are becoming more and more frequent. We have consulted 4 different vets, yet they don't offer much advice. We are just wondering if anyone out there has had any similar experiences, and how they treated them. Any holistic or homeothopic remedies or treatments? Please help us all you pet lovers out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These sites might be of service to you. I would also contact one of these 4 vets and ask if they know of specialists in the area that they can refer you too.

Did any of the Veterinarians prescribe Phenobarbital for this pups seizures! I know some times they ask you to go home and record the amount and consistancey of the siezures so they can come to a correct dosage. What did you vet say?

Holistic remidies can be a bit dangerouse, I stand by many - but I'm a Vet Tech and have been trained to recognize any possible side effect and emergency situations. Its very important you run it by your veterinarian. If they get testy or rude about it, go to another vet, because ultimately its not about the money, its the welfare of the animal, according to the Veterinary Oath.

Check out some of these sites, but be cautiouse, some can cause irreputable damage if not done properly.

Your best bet is to try to find a holistic veterinarian in your area if holestic or homeopathic is the way you want to go.

Hi,I have a boxer who is just over a year old and has severe epilepsy. Started fitting at around 6 months, has been on deaths door and still fought through it.
It is an extremely stressful time when your dog is fitting, but my advice is to do your research on the net. I have found out so much about canine epilepsy on the net, everything from what to do during and after a fit,to medication and how to make things easier on yourself living with an epileptic dog. Hope this helps and good luck.......

Well, first off at least one of those vets should have gave her some meds for the dogs epilepsy...She needs to be put on meds NOW. That is the only way her seizures will stop...If she doesn't have the meds the dog could die... For some reason epilepsy is common in Chi's....I was checking out a Chihuahua rescue website, and they have alot that are epileptic.

Have your vet prescribe anti seizure meds for the dog.
Once you get the meds it will take time to regulate the dog. Each dog is different and needs different amounts of meds to control the seizures. My grandfathers dog takes only a pill every other day and is fine and been seizure free for years.
But it takes time to regulate the meds. Once you do the dog should be fine.
You need to get the dog on antiseizure meds it works far better and more reliably than the homeopathic things for this particular disorder.

those sezures can e fatal , maybe that's why the vets did not offer much advice , but i find that very odd , most vets are very good about making you and your animal as confortable as possible , i'm sure that if you asked for something for that dog you would get it , i hope the best for he little one .
