We are giving my puppy her first bath today, any tips? I also heard that to make it easier to brush the dog after the bath, you should use detangler. Is human detangler safe to use on dogs? We are using dog shampoo though.

My samoyed puppy is 5 months old, and she still bites us. She doesn't break the skin, but her teeth still hurt A LOT. She is losing her baby teeth now, and the amount of biting seems to have gone down. The only thing is, we would like it to stop completely. We've tried holding her mouth shut, biting her ear very gently, ignoring her, putting her in time out, rolling her over on her back, making high-pitched noises, spraying her with water, giving her a shake while holding her by the scruff of her neck, scolding her, making a loud sound, etc...

Most of these techniques make her come back for more instead of stopping. She is a dominant dog, and is doing very well in obedience training, but we would really like this problem to stop. She is not possesive of anything. Does anyone have any tips or have you been through the same thing?

Neighbors have a lab, sweet old thing I must say. Today, after he went and followed me on my walk his owners came looking, then whipped the poor guy for not coming when called and traveling with the rest of the "pack." *side question, how can I tell them that's NOT a good thing to do?*

Anyways, while walking back the owner went off saying this dog was worth 2grand because he was trained an already neutered. Um... obedience training *all the way, not just a single set of classes* is prolly only $500, at the most, and neuter around here costs less than $50. I know these people, and I guaruntee the dog isn't registered with anything, and if it is they don't have proof.

Short of being a trained and registered seeing-eye or search and rescue dog *i don't think they'd place a retiree where the dog gets whipped, chained, and never taken on walks or let in the house* what makes a lab worth 2k?

Is it healthy to feed my dogs beef chunks everyday? I put in some white rice for them and feed them twice a day. Is it ok?

My dog has a swollen anal gland and she had it on the other side only a week and a half ago and I took her to the doctor, shouldn't the doctor have released both of them then? I made an appointment to go to the doctor but, is there anything I can do to help the pain until i take her?

I tried to ask this before about my dog, but some people tended to think I'm unfit and that I need to give away my dog. I tried to ask a question to get help and all i got was b*tched at. So here goes again.

I have a 3yr old male greyhound who is suddenly developing aggression issues. I have another dog and cat who behave just fine thank you. the grey is scared of the cat and leaves her alone. But recently he has been growling at my other dog and at us. I took him to visit my dad, and let him run outside in the fenced yard, he tried to attack through the fence the neighbors dog who did nothing to him. He growled at my dads dog as well. He usually got along with other dogs VERY well and was very peaceful towards other dogs and humans. now i dont trust him at all. He is unpredicatble. I've had him for 6 months now and just recently this behavior has shown up. I've been a member of a grey fun run group and i am afraid this may have set off his aggressive behavior. cuz he is around

My dog is not bleeding that I can tell, but her vulva looks a little more swollen than usual. Does this mean she is in heat? Could it just be the very beginning of heat and maybe she just hasn't started bleeding yet? Is this normal?

I have a 4 month old male Staffie (who Rocks by the way), and I have heard that it is a good idea to wait until 12-18 months to allow testasterone to help fully develop muscle tone, and that to do it too soon will keep him from maturing fully. It sounds like it makes sense, is there any truth to this, or should I just get it done around 6 months like most breeds???

We wanted to add an addition to our family in the way of a pet. Which breed should we choose that would be good for a home with 2 small boys in it? I was thinking of a Jack Russell, Bulldog, or some other small breed. I am going to purchase it while it's a puppy so we can train him or her to fit our house. Anyone know of any other good breeds that are good with kids? I would prefer it to be under 25 #'s adult size & a short smooth coat.

Thank you.

I own the most hyper and rambunctious 4 month old Pom puppy ever! I picked him up at 6:00 p.m. today and he was wide awake and full of energy --he had just been neutered this morning. I was told that puppies tend to be lethargic right after the surgery and the day after. Well, not my pup. He was practically jumping out of my arms when I went to pick him up. The vet tech told me to give him half a tablespoon of children's Benadryl 2 times per day (3 times if he was super hyper) to calm him down. I gave it to him and it took quite a while for him to settle down. He started trying to lick the area soon after. Then he slept for 7 1/2 hours. It's now late at night and I have just given him another dose of Benadryl. Given his energy level --and the likelihood that he will wake up and lick/bite himself-- should I let him sleep with the "lampshade" on overnight? Help!!

I've seen this in t.v shows, during vet visits, the pet store. I take my 2 pit bulls to the pet store or to the vet, and they won't even growl at those lil dogs. Instead, those lil dogs will start being aggressive towards my dogs......And people say that Pitbulls are mean....
