Well dogs in england, asia , russia, canada, US and every where else growls when upset. Their language is universal but consists of far more the vocals, they posture, use body language, use eye contact ,sniff, scent mark with urine, fecal, and foot glands to communicate with one another, sometimes problems with communication occur if a pup is taken from the litter too earlier and then are unintentially corrected for using dog communication by owners and not socialized with other dogs, later when they meet another dog, they do not know how to communicate properly and can ended up making serious faux pas in proper greeting or fails to submit which can result in them getting beat up by another dog, this senario unfortunately occurs too often, leaving a lot of pet dog unable to communicate with the general dog population. This is why it is so very important to have a put stay with mom and the litter till 8 to 10 weeks and also socialize it with other dog while still young as older dogs will tolerate and be more gentle with a pup under 6 months to help teach them, once they are older other dogs will often be less forgiving.

I have found that it doesn't matter where the dog is they still communicate the same. Kinda makes you think, dogs are really smart. They have to learn our language and their own. I also believe we don't hear about dog and cat experiments because they are domesticated and we consider them part of us. So to experiment on them would be like experimenting on a child. I mean they have health insurance, spas, and now they even have a commercial where you can support a sheltered dog for $18 a day. No joke. They send you a picture and everything. Just like the starving children.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/6ljiI

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

i'm curious to see what responses you will get from the people on this one. I have traveled a lot with my dogs and have found the communications to be universal as they dont learn to speak from humans. A lot is "body" language. The tail seems to be the most obvious to humans. If held high it shows their alpha status and can be aggressive, if held low it shows submission. They also react to the eyes, human and animal. A direct continuous stare is taken as a threat. They also go by smell, they seem to pick up on adrenilin. I've raised wolves for many years and get this, they howl but don't bark until they learn to from dogs. As long as i lived remotely, they never barked. Grandpa always taught me to spit in the mouth of my personal companion once as a puppy, the taste and smell would bond the pup to me, it works. I once asked him why, he said the pup would never forget me, lol, guess i wouldnt forget someone holding me down and spitting a wad down my throat either. He raised wolves for many years and taught me how to communicate with them using all these methods, smell, body language, actually, all of your senses.

A dog's bark, growl and tail wag has the same meaning all over the world; to us as well as to them.
