Your dog has something going on in his back most likley in the spinal column. If they jump off things it can cause problems. Most times they have a slipped disc or ruptured disc and it puts pressure on the spinal cord and that is what causes them to loose the movement in the back end.
Most times they give them high dose steroids to see if it will bring down the swelling and see how much feeling they get back in their back feet.
I have friends whose dog had it happen a few years ago and she is doing well now but you have to be careful with her and not let her jump on things. Hopefully things will go well for your pet as well.

the Dachshund breed in general is prone to spinal issues regarding slipped and ruptured disks. This in turn effects the nerves in such a way as to prevent the signal from the brain the the hind end. It can cause the dog to not be able to have a bowel movement in addition to loss of movement to the legs. General treatment is a cordisone injection which is an anti inflamitory med. The dog will need to be crated to eliminate movement and allow time for the back to heal. As for the bloating, they may need to induce a bowel movement to clean out his intestines. Note this in the future and read up on the health issues of Dachshunds so that you are better prepared for these issues in the future. In addition, if this was your daughter having these problems what would you have done? I don't think you would be posting this question on Yahoo!

Tell them to check the stomach it might cost some money but isn't your dog worth getting checked up on? And also make sure that you have those things that roller cart that you can .Have the dogs legs in the back of it almost like a stroller you know what i mean and now you know they can survive on three legs or it can have that stroller thing and it can also walk on just two of the legs.

If you are able to afford surgery, then great! After surgery, your dog will need about 6 weeks of crate rest to recover. Please do not let him start running around again immediately afterwards. You chance another episode if so. You also need to be taught how to express his bladder if he is not doing it on his own. Check out Dodgerslist.com for more information on IVDD and disabled dogs. They are very helpful.
Good Luck

Not sure what time your appointment is but see if you can get him in sooner than your scheduled time. Doxie's are prone to having back issues. If there is trauma to his spine, that is most likely why he has not had a bowel movement. It may hurt him to try and go and he would rather hold it in.

They make a set of wheels that can be attatched to a dogs hind legs which makes them somewhat operable. You can talk to a veterinarian about. As for the constipation, there is a natural remedy called PetAlive Natural Moves here is a link for you to check it out for yourself.

Are you stupid? You don't make an appointment with a vet when your dog can't poop or use his hind legs!!!! You take him to the animal emergency hospital! Go right now!

with a lot of dogs thier hips fall apart when they get older.
My old girl did and at the same time she was going blind and deaf. I had to put her down and this still brings tears to my eyes and sarrow to my heart.

As long as you going today its fine. If not I would say, you will have to dis inpact him. But leave that for the vet.
