Dogs - March 2007

I am very excited to get a third puppy (my first one died of liver cancer, and the second got ran over on the farm), but i don't know which kind to get.
I want a breed that will need an average amount of exercise, live in a hot summer/cold winter climate, and that is good with cats and little kids.
I don't want a poodle or anything tiny like that.
I want something big enough that i can run with (or bike with), take to baseball games, and that can stay on the first level of our house...any ideas?

I would currently found out the dog food i used was recalled. What are symptoms for a liver damage. what should i do to feed him.

I does not like to eat his dog food plain. what can i mix to make a sauce. any suggestion. Myaybe rice, broth or an egg.

Lately, ever since my chihuihui died, I'ver been getting really weird things happening to me. When I come into my house, I hear his barking. When my boyfriend comes over, he all of the sudden has misterious bite marks on his leg(Lolo hated him). This morning, I set down my breakfast burritio(Lolos favorite dish) that I had just made to get orange juice, and when I came back, half of it was already eaten!!! ANy comments or ideas of what's going on? Just to narrow down any thoughts, I want you all to know that Lolo was not abused, unhappy, or mistreated in any way in his life. His death was caused by choking on a bone while I was out. Thank you all very much.

My dog is a medium mixed breed dog she is really perfect EXCEPT when people come over then she barks and growls at them for around 20 minuts non stop. She has never bit any one just that she is still too big to be doing this I just want her to stop barking/growing when I tell her too. How should I do that I am out of ideas and thought I would ask.

I have a almost six month year old bichon frise. we have had her for 3 months. Sometimes when we put her on the bed while we are just lying down she starts intensively digging into the bed. But when we put her down she just barks like she wants to get back up. What is she doing?

We have a 13 week old Chines Crested powder puff who has started loosing his hair. Obviously we are taking him to the vet on Wednesday( the soonest they could get us in). So please don't tell me to take him to the vet. I am just looking for a little info and to see if any one knows if it is possible for a haired dog to become hairless. My dog got run over and I'm only taking him to his VET tomorrow, I gave a 1/3 of aspirin last night so he wouldn't be in pain...should i give him aspirin again?
*He's doing okay but yes he's in pain when he moves, thank god no bleeding or cuts, just his left leg got a huge bruise :(

My puppy is 6 months and she's at the end of her heat cycle. She's not bleeding anymore, but her vulva is still quite swollen. There is a foul smell coming from her vulva that we can not get rid of despite washing it with puppy soap. It also appears very moist. Should I be worried or is this part of being in heat? Otherwise, she is acting as normal.

I have a 1 year old PomChi, and he is always being exposed to 2nd hand smoke. Most of my family smokes, and there is always clouds of smoke in our house. Will this be harmfull to my dog?

I would guess it would be harmfull ( common sense) But how and where would it effect my dogs health?

I'm 18 years old and I live with my parents, and about 6 months ago my previous dog, bit my sister and we had to get rid of him. I hate the thought of being without another pet for 2 years, but i think the incident scared my dad a little bit, and he wont agree to another dog untill next summer (2008). I've tryed so many things but he just doesnt see how much it has affected me. I feel like a piece of me is missing (ok, i know its corny but i just need to be around animals-i cant explain it). I have an 11 month old mixed breed dog. He is about 12 pounds and is a mix between a poodle yorkie and cocker spaniel. He is pretty much perfect except for one thing. When we put him in his crate he FLIPS out. He growls and goes to bite us. He like totally FREAKS out. He only does it when we are crating him while cleaning or leaving for work. When we put him to bed he is fine. I'm not sure what to do. He NEVER growls or goes to bite us any other time. There are certain times he needs to be in a cage when we are home. What should I do?
