I can't build a fence because of home owners associations, but I'm sick of his two huskies laying more land mines than somalia. Will peeing on my property line mark my territory?

They are a bunch of renters who don't particularly care about being neighborly. Wouldn't I need to get a collar for the underground fence to work?

They are in violation of laws if they are letting their dogs run loose.

You could try talking to them, if that doesn't work call animal control or the police.

I'm assuming they are also affected by the home owner's association. If so check out the rules with that as well. That may help you get the dogs to stop using your yard. I think if they were threatened with being kicked out or getting heavy fines, they may rethink their actions.

I love dogs, but I can't stand irresponsible dog owners.

I'm having this exact problem now with my neighbors. Since we've moved in they've let their kids and dogs run anywhere they want/my yard (they definitely aren't concerned with being neighborly considering the trash they leave everywhere.) I talked to them a couple of times about the dogs and they said they'd handle it but 2 years later we still have a problem. Just the other day I had their 3 dogs on my front steps barking at me as I was trying to come outside. :-\ I've taken the nice guy approach and talked to them so my next step was to go to animal control. They were given a verbal warning (and they were told what the leash laws were when the dog isn't in THEIR yard) and we were advised to take pictures or videos to prove next time that the dogs weren't being controlled by the owners. If this continues the animal control officer issues a citation and anything further could be jail time or a fine depending on the judge's ruling.

We're going to get a fence and I'm sorry that you can't.

Best wishes!

If you cannot build a fence because of your home owner's association, I am sure they will take care of the dog problem for you. People cannot be allowed to let their dogs roam free and all over your yard.

There are guidelines regarding dog behavior. Not only that, but most associations only allow dogs that weigh 30 pounds and under. Check into your by laws.

TO:xChickO: WHY would someone install an electric fence if it didn't "harm the dogs"? That is not right. It does harm the dog and it is not the questioner's right to harm the dogs.

It does not matter if they are RENTERS. They HAVE to follow the same guidelines or be evicted. Report them to the association. I am telling you, this will work. I have a lot of experience in condos, apartments and co-ops.

You people should really do some research before you discourage an answer. Aside from talking to the owner's, I think an electric dog fence would work. They DO NOT harm the dogs like some of you seem to incorrectly think. They work one of two ways: they either use a noise to deter the dogs from coming near it, not one high enough to hurt their ears, just enough to annoy them so that they don't want to be near it or they use a very slight electric stimulation, like static shock. Again, that's not painful, just a little annoyance.

Also, I love how someone commented on the dog fence post and nobody has anything about the person suggesting shooting the dog with a pellet that could be very painful and even lead to a serious injury or infection.

I had problems keeping my dogs out of the flower beds and when I went to the garden shop, they suggested "dried blood'... that's what its called - comes in a 3-4lb bag, it's like powder, and I sprinkled a line of it around the flower bed, and it worked... my dog stayed away from it. I'm not sure what the ingredient that its made of, or if it's actual dried blood, but whatever, it had no odor, no mess, and little expense. After a few heavy rains, I had to re-do it, but after awhile the dogs just gave up, knowing that they weren't allowed past the line. The bagged dried blood is probably a cheaper substitute for "Dog Be Gone" repellent that you can buy in the petshops.

there are sprays that dogs hate and cause them to avoid an area, first i would take red pepper powder and spread it on the areas they deficate in and maybe even the property line, then take the poop they leave in your yard and toss alittle bit of it back into his yard without him seeing of course, the reason for this is dogs in any community like to poop in the same spot so if you put some of the poop in one spot the dogs will continue to mark that different area. I was told hot sauce or red pepper powder is disliked by dogs and they won't go or mark in that area, there are also store brands of dog repealent, but for this to truely work you must create a new poop spot or the dogs will just go in a new area of your yard. personally i would caught his dogs and bring them to the pound and make him pay a fine to get them back, or call the dog ward, or take the dog **** and put it in a bag and leave it on his porch ha ha.

You can get an electric fence. They are usually laid underground or just have two ends that sit separately and make the fence between them. They can be a bit pricey, but they're invisible and effective and they cause no harm to the dogs.

In response to martinamagrace: You obviously don't know anything about invisible electric fenses. They either use a sound or small shock (like you could from touching your car) to deter the dogs. I would never recommend anything that would harm an animal and I would never recommened someone hurting someone else's animals. So please do some research before you assume the worst.

Have you tried to talk to your neighbors? They too have to keep within the homeowners rules too. You should not have to pick up their dogs poo. There must be rules about this within your association.
they do make sprays to spray on your property that are supposed to keep dogs away. I have never used it but I have been told it does work.

I would write a note to you neighbor asking them to please control their dogs! I know how you feel because my neighbor let his cocker spaniel run loose and it took these HUGE craps in my yard and I always stepped in them so I went over and asked if they would please tie up their dog and they did. Sometimes you just need to ask.
