whenever we try to take away smth from him, he tries to bite us. Or if he is sleeping and we try to cuddle, he gets PISSED. Is this normal? If not, what should we do?

the vet said for him not to run around and to watch his stitches. But everything was fine for a few days and now he started licking his stitched and I noticed some blood coming from the stitched area. What should I do? I dab the area with hydrogen peroxide, but should I take him in to the vet? Or is he just running around too much? :( I am worried.

My mom's dog that I inherited when she passed last December doesn't seem to be doing well. She has an odor that is something like a rancid sugary smell. It smells just like it did in the room when my mom passed. Is this a sign she is going to pass soon? What else do I look for?

When I adopted my female dog as an abandoned stray I paid a 150 dollar deposit at the pound to be returned when I got her spayed. I took her to the vet the day I got her and they told me there was no way to tell if she was spayed already and that I should just go ahead with the surgery and if she was already done I would still have to pay. I refused to do so and decided to wait to see if she went into heat and so tell that way, well the pound would not extend the deposit date to wait for that so I ended up losing my deposit but saved my dog being cut open for no reason, just in case. It turned out she was not spayed and as soon as I knew that I got her done.. But I feel cheated still out of my money, I mean is there really no test at all to tell if a dog is already spayed besides cutting them open??

I am flying from UT to NC with my dog. I am taking her with me in the cabin. We are flying on US Airlines. I have called 2 times to customer service and both times the agents have told me I do not need any health papers for my dog to fly. However, my vet tells me that almost all airlines require health papers and I should make sure before I leave that I don't need the health papers. Anybody have experience with US Airlines and dogs?

I have had some of my friends tell me to just feed my 5 year-old Siberian Husky cooked meat and rice with powdered doggy vitamins, but who has the time for all that? I noticed that the dog food that I was paying extra for was the same as the storebrands sold to Petco and PetSmart...

However, with this pet food recall scare, I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and just devote a day a week to cook up the meat and rice for him??

-OR- are there other more holistic dog foods I can buy?

Hello, I am extremely worried right now because I have been feeding both of my dogs a particular brand of dog food from Save-A-Lot Discount stores, and according to the Menu Foods website, certain brands of Save-A-Lot dog food are apart of the massive recall of dog and cat food. The particular dog food that I buy, I don't know it's exact name, but it comes in a can with red labels with blue writing. Does anyone know the exact name of this brand is? It's not the chunky bits with gravy stuff or lamb and rice stuff, it's more like light brown (similar to spam in texture). Both of my dogs are fine right now, I don't see any abnormal behavior but I am still very worried.

He is absolutely precious! :o) We were wondering, at what age do the tails on them curl, he looks like it is starting to curl, but we are curious to know at what age the tail completely curls up. Both the the parents are full bred and we saw them on site. (Very loving family...not a puppy mill, btw...and YES, we are going to get him fixed when he is old enough). Thanks for all your help! :o)

I just had my 4 month old (male) Pomeranian pup neutered 3 days ago. The vet handed me a sheet with instructions that said "No running, jumping, rough playing and short leashed walks for the next 2 weeks" among other things. Is the "Instructions sheet" just plain poorly written i.e. did they mean recently neutered dogs CAN only go on short leashed walks but not run, etc.? My poor puppy is naturally hyper so he is not a happy camper without his exercise. He even had the zoomies and I had to stop him. I know these energy boosts are normal from ages 3 to 6 months but I know the lack of exercise is contributing to his zoomies. How many days after the surgery (castration) can the dog go for a short leashed walk? How do you get your puppy to safely release its energy during the 2 weeks after neutering? Thank you for reading the whole posting before responding without the snippy comments.

My dog has severe separation anxiety that has only escalated. we have tried everything to calm him down. now i think medication may be the only resort we have left. that being said, what can i do in the meantime? he nearly killed himself by throwing himself against the glass door and is barking and flipping out, trying to break down the back door. my wife is 4 months pregnant and he is a danger to her because he starts panicking and forcing his way into the house, nearly knocking her over when she goes to feed him. we have tried restraining him ( he is a saint bernard) on a chain for his own safety and he almost broke the chain and ripped the stake out of the ground. please help!

please help!

I am planning to get a dog this summer. We already have a dog who is very attached to my mother, but he is not cuddly and friendly, so I would like a dog of my own.

This new dog is going to move with me when I leave home in three or four years. I am mildly worried that this new dog (not going to be a puppy--more like 2-4 years old) will bond more with my mother than me. It seems possible because my mother has a higher 'alpha' ranking than I do.

How can I prevent this and make sure he bonds more deeply with me?

My current plan is to get him at the start of the summer. I will not be working this summer, or taking summer classes at uni, so I'll have lots of time to spend with him while my mother and the rest of my family will not be at home.

I will probably also take him on walks (and not let anyone else in my family take him, or only let them take him infrequently) around our neighborhood and at the local park.

Thanks!

I have a little male dog, and 2 big chow/lab mix females, Can the little dog get the big dogs pregnant? Do I need to separate them in that time? And when will they go in season (born Aug 06) ? It just seems impossible for that little one to get on the big ones back but someone told me it has happen to them

My family already has one dog who is very well behaved (2-year old beagle mix) and soon we will be moving to a house with a big yard and generally more space. After we get settled into that house and the dog is settled, I might consider getting another dog (since we will have the big yard and more space). My question is, how much more difficult is it to care for 2 dogs instead of 1? What issues would I have to be concerned about (besides making sure the two dogs got along)? Any advice/experiences appreciated.

My dog has had a low grade fever and some lameness in her rear legs for 1 month. She has taken several blood tests and theyhave been normal. Even the lyme disease test came back negative. We decided to treat her for lyme disease anyway to see if this would work. She was treated with two types of antibiotics - amoxycillin for 28 days and doxycyline for 14 days. She has been improving, but she is not 100%. She has difficulty lifting herself off the floor/bed and sitting. Once she's standing she usually walks OK. However, when we have guests, like we did yesterday, she gets very excited. Therefore, she had a set back and began walking very slowly. Perhaps we over did it with the guests : ( She was also tested for immune mediated arthritis. This test also came back negative. However, the vet is now treating her with steroids. Not sure if this is going to work, but I don't know what else to do. I should also note that x-rays are normal. Any help out there?
