Is this dog a puppy or young animal that hasn't had all of it's booster shots? Or did he just get shots when he went to the vet, because it's sounds like parvo, which is something that does not show until 4 to 10 days after exposure, parvo is ususally present in areas where alot of dogs come thru. Go to the vet right away if it's parvo then good luck, it could also be worms, or he eat something sharp like a rock thats causing blockage. But if he's become quiter and somewhat sleepy it's a parvo sign and shots given within days of coming to a vet do not protect a dog

A dog having bloody stool is most commonly caused by internal parasites/worms. Taking in a stool sample and asking your Veterinarian to perform a fecal exam is the first step (a small amount of stool is placed in a solution that makes the internal parasite/worm eggs to float where they are "collected" on a slide cover and read under a microscope; the eggs are microscopic, in otherwards cannot be seen by the naked eye). If internal parasites/worms are the culprit, this is aleviated by giving your dog a prescription wormer that is parasite/worm species specific; they average less than $15. After the medication is gone, then he/she will want to run another fecal sample to make sure your dog is free and clear of the internal parasites/worms.
(note: when collecting the stool sample try to get it as close as possible from the time your dog "poops" until you can get the sample to your Veterinarian; the shorter amount of time the sample sits, the more accurate it will be. Place the sample in a baggie and the baggie in a another bag, paper or plastic. Mark your last name, your pets first name, and the date is what collected on the baggie and on the paper/plastic bag.)
If the bloody stool is accompanied by your dog acting lethargic (weak), arching his back (abdominal pain), his gums look pale or white (as opposed to the normal pink), he is acting anxious, is showing little or no interest in whats going on around him, is vomiting, having diarrhea, and/or is showing no interest in eating or drinking, then you need to get him to a Veterinarian soon. All of these syptoms could still point too internal parasites, but what this could signify is that his system has a high concentration of them and/or he is having complications secondary to the parasite/worm infestion. Those signs point to anemia, gastroenteritis, intestinal blockage (in rare cases), and/or dehydration.
If your dog is diagnosed having an internal parasite/worm, you might want to consider puting your dog on a heartworm plus product. Not only does this product protect your pet from life threatening heartworms, but also against roundworms and hookworms.

It could be just worms, internal bleeding if the dog was kicked or hit by anyone or anything.Parvo is another possibility but since you did not say your dog is acting real sick then I dont think you dog has parvo.Either way a bloody stool is alarming and it is a sign for you to take the dog to the vet.

Could mean many things depending on the character of the stool and the blood, for example is the whole stool bloody, or does it have bloody streaks? Does the dog have diarrhea? Are the stools black, or red? You should call your vet, give him the information, and see what the vet says as there are many many things it could be.

Get on the web and check out the list of Dog food that is being recalled so you can find out if the dog food that you are giving your dog is not on the list. It sounds like the problem that the cats are having from the bad cat food but its the dog food also. Yahoo News will have the list and also others sites havee it also.

the dog would have blood in his sh*t. it may be obvious when you notice the red or coffee grinds color. it may take a special test to detect the blood called a hemoccult.
